Very fair point and I have been considering that. A decent replacement would cost me an extra $10k or more, depending on how old/new I was willing to buy.

And I actually like driving this car and, up until this incident, I had no consideration of replacing it. So, again, I agree about the devil I know.

Any recommendations for a good, independent mechanic in Melbourne? I live in the City but am prepared to travel a bit. I found one in South Melbourne with many great reviews but I think he's shut up shop for the holidays as he hasn't answered his phone or returned my messages. Bugger. I'll keep trying.
