Hey guys
i was driving up punt road last night and i ran a red light (due to the wet roads + not paying attention for a split second) The camera flashed what looked like was twice.. i know i wasn't speeding as i was half way through an emergency stop on the ABS.. How much do they sting you these days for running a red light, and how many demerit points? Cheers

The camera always flashes twice for red light offences. The second photo is to tell whether you actually proceeded through the intersection instead of just rolling over the trigger line.

Was it the lights at the top of the hill (almost) before you go down and over the river?
That one also has a speed camera on it too.. catches HEAPs of people... including me. :(

yeah it was the one at the top of the hill :(
I'm sure i wasn't speeding cos when the light flashed, i was almost stopped from the emergency braking. I just changed my pads + rotors 3 weeks ago (they're bedded in) and i must say an emergency stop in a straight line using ABS in the wet is almost as if you don't stop at all. I understand that the pedal pulses to stop locking up so you can steer, but what if you're in a straight line and need to stop quickly like me?? 3 points and $250 fine seems a bit ridiculous!!!!!!!! I hope this isn't the case :(

you would've slid heaps further without the ABS though... but it won't feel like it.

Last night I was doing a 3 point turn in the wet... i put my brakes on at about 5km/h when the abs kicked in. I almost hit a parked car due to the ABS dragging out the stop.
Sometimes the ABS isn't as smart as it thinks it is...

With wider tyres you have more tyre on the road which logically means more grip. Oh also if you dont have the right pressure in your tyres (36-40) then under brakes, tyres concave inwards causing a cave in the center of the tyre, which enables for water to get in under the tyre, then you will take longer to stop. Even in dry weather, the tyre concaves inwards on brakes and you only use couple centimeters from the left and right side of a tyre, the center concaves. Heres a little pic Correct pressure, full lock skid, the tyre will leave marks like this ||| = all of tyre surface used incorrect pressure looks like this on skid | | = only using left and right side of tyre on a skid. Hope that makes sense.

You might be lucky the camera could have run out of film.

Only in NSW mate. Victoria, as Casper said, is all Digital. Our Roads Minister said that, because of the maintenance of the Analogue cameras, only about 1/3rd of them are working. Talk about Russian Roulette. I wish I could say the same thing about our Speed Cameras. I'll add this: You can always appeal the fine, just tell the Authorities that it was wet, the Visibility was poor, and you tried to stop, but, because of Oil on the road you slid over the Lines, triggering the camera. Apologise, and you should get off.

the second poto - flash is a timed delay first pic they have a reference , second timed pic they can see if your stoping or not , and they can calculate with their first pic (point of reference) how far youve traveled in a timed situation x amount of distance in y amount of time = z amount of speed

I know it's not a nice thing to hear me say but making excuses is going to get you nowhere. Try though still..
They'll just tell you that you should have been driving to the conditions. in SA it's $300+, 3 demerit points and if you're on your P plates, say goodbye to your license... Disobeying a traffic signal is a breach of Provisional Conditions and that's an immediate loss of license. I got shat on... I went through on a wet day with a Semi, 23 tonne on my trailer, ABS and air assist and i only just crossed the line as it went red... the day before i got off my P's... There is no common sense in the govt. I just hope you're not in SA. GOOD LUCK

My setup:
- EBC Black pads (new) - DBA Slotted rotors (just machined) - 215/60 Bridgestone Grid II (Brand new) I tried a emergency stop tonight in the wet in a controlled environment (country road) and it pulled up alright. I'm guessing the road was very greasy/slippery/worn. I will definitely appeal the fine, see how i go.
