Default How to stop Callum's fb rip offs

Hi all.

Don't know if this is the right place for this but here goes.

I've just had a quick look a Callum's fb page (I do that some times) and what do I see staring back at me but a picture my XR8 that I had previously posted here on the forums.

He did not ask if he could use it, he hasn't acknowledged my ownership or said thanks, nothing.

What can I do to stop this bloke doing this?

Mods please move this post if it's in the wrong place.

Cheers,
Garry.

Callum is the bloke who runs the "support the 2014 Falcon" face book page.

Many on this forum have some serious, and sound, dislike for this bloke.

Take it as a compliment mate... I mean you've already posted your car on the net? Callum must think ya cars pretty cool if he's displaying it?
End of the day.. It's ONLY Callum.. Dill that he is.

I've sent him a message and asked that he remove the pic.

And to actually ask permission next time.

Looks like he's had to have a few days off school as he's in Hospital with a rare condition.

I managed to point out the error of his choice of pics though.........Had to use a different name this time, my other one is banned from commenting on both of his sites

You could complain to F.B. support, mind you once you post up a photo on the internet regardless where or how you are open to this sort of behaviour & there is no way of stopping it.

That's copyright infringement, plain and simple. If it were me I wouldn't bother with the pleasantries, I'd send him a sternly worded cease and desist letter and report the page to FB.

Just had a browse of the page, ironically he's jumped on some other bloke for posting an FGX photo that wasn't his. But of course he's happy to log on here and steal all of our photos- something he's been repeatedly asked to stop doing, yet clearly still does.

I don't see the issue of having a picture of your car on the Internet. Is there something in it that identifies you, and you are worried that somebody will look for the owner of the vehicle, stalk you, and kill you? Or are you a professional photographer and somebody is stealing your work (a photograph that you took) for their personal gain? I would understand if it is the latter, but seriously, I couldn't care less if someone posted a pic of my vehicles somewhere. As long as the camera isn't a speed camera, what is the worry?

What is with dudes getting ****ed about someone posting a picture of their car? And what 's the problem with the number plates showing?

Seriously, WTF?

When I started reading I thought the guy stole the OPs car...but then realised it he simply posted a picture of it.

Seriously get over it, if this is the biggest problem you have...lucky you.

Do you blokes drive around with your number plates covered?

Then dudes suggesting to send a cease and desist letter

May be sue him for hurting your feelings? Maybe get your mum and dad to talk to his mum and dad.

Another solution is stop looking at facebook.

I must be missing something because I just don't "get" facebook.
It must be an extroverted thing, just about everyone I know has facebook dramas on a regular basis!
Kill facebook!

No problem with the pic being there, if he had done the right thing and asked.
The issue is the lack of manners and actually asking for permission to use my photos.

If you can't see the problem then i feel sorry for you.
It doesn't take a lot of effort to show some respect and ask permission to use someone's photo.

LOL OK

Judging by your SIG you don't own an xb coupe track car, did you get permission to use that coupe as your avatar.

Your signature should have details about the picture

Sorry mate if you want permission it is not going to happen, if you post up on the internet then it is posted for all to do what they like with your images unless you have it copyright protection, be honest with yourself how many pictures have you downloaded off the net with out permission.

If you do not want others to copy your images then don't post them.

You obviously don't know the finer points of copyright law. The person who took the photo owns the photo, other than some sort of agreement in writing to the contrary. The copyright owner has the exclusive right to post it elsewhere if he so chooses at his sole discretion. Anyone else who does that is infringing copyright.

Copyright protection is automatic. You don't have to "have it copyright protection" [sic].

Just because someone has posted their image on the internet doesn't mean it's posted "for all to do what they like". That's a load of nonsense.

The finer points of copyright law? How about just sticking to the basics first.

The OP does not make money from the image posted on FB, he probably posted the image himself elsewhere for free with no intention of being compensated for doing so.

Copyright law is designed to protect the author so the author can be compensated for their work. Copyright law is enforced through civil action.

Given there are no losses and the image has been posted on the net and freely available to anyone by the OP himself I doubt copyright applies. But lets assume copyright does apply, given that it is enforced through civil action the op has to sue Callum for hurting his feelings.

Your photos so if they are being ripped off without your permission then a polite cease and desist should be sufficient.
Don't expect much support as the illegal use of images and copyright material is endemic through out the community.

Actually, copyright law is supposed to protect intellectual property. Money is incidental.

Wrong. How much money is made from the photo is irrelevant. The fact is that copyright has been infringed and the copyright owner will be well within his rights to seek legal redress, irrespective of how much money the copyright owner makes from the photo, or how much money the infringer made from the photo. They can sue for damages and for legal costs.

No that is not correct. If it is your photo posted on Facebook you are still the legal owner.
