Default Our latest aquisitions :D

Well after a long long search & lack of funds we have been given 2 horses

One is a thoroughbred who is show jumping trained for my daughter. He is 13yr old & 16.3hh (for the uneducated in equine stuff that equals Friggen HUGE :P ) He is the most gentlemanly horse I have seen in a long long time, which is good when its your 13yr old daughter riding him.

The other is a baby for me. He is only 2 & not broken in nor handled at this stage. He is still a Colt but will be gelded next week before I bring him home. I cant wait to get back into the swing of horsey stuff again .... it has been way too long py:

The best part of this deal is they are being given to us for free as the current owners are moving and have no where to keep them ...... I was told today that they would have been put down if I couldnt take them and I was the only option for them as they knew what a wonderful home they are going to ....... awwww shucks ...... someone thinks Im great :P

I have attached piccys so you can all see these excellent new pets ;) I will remind everyone that yes we are in drought & these boys arnt as fat as they should be ..... but with a little more food & T.L.C they will be back to show condition in not too long ;)

My baby is the little black & white pony in the middle of the first piccy & Im sure you will be able to gather the huge boy in the next piccy :

Good to see you looking after some horses rather than they be put down! I know you will look after them well.

As for a name, I am hopeless with those sorts of things ...

name it sprint!

Nice pickup Lisa, it would be a shame for such beautiful animal to be put down. I used to ride/show horses when i was younger, my auntie got me into it before she had her own kids. Was good fun! I used to try jumping but i had a couple of falls which put me off. :( I havn't ridden a horse in around 6 years. Lots of good memorys.

How olds your daughter ? :P ;) jk. I wish i lived on a farm. I hate the suburbs.

Very nice horses. I only got the chance to go riding once, but it was fun.
It's good to see that they've gone to a good home instead of being put down.

How did I miss this post??

Horsies.. Woo Hoo!!

I got my first horse when I was 2 years old and have had another 3 since.

Everyone in my family loves horses, even Kyle, he keeps asking when we're going riding again.

When we move again next, Troy and I are thinking about semi country so I can buy a yearling and train it myself. Pity I sold all my gear.

The names of my horses; Minty (she was pure white), Mandrake (I didn't name him), Jake (16 hands also) & Shannon (I didn't name her either).

It's a pity two of them had sad endings (not my fault). :(

I hope you and your daughter have many years of enjoyment. _2:

My daughter (mad keen horse chick and Saddle Club extraordinaire) said Patch, Gypsy, Cremare, Ghasto and Prancer.

Also she said that if any other horses in need show up, give her a call :hihi:

Good luck with the new family members MN . My daughter and I spent a very cold and wet few hours in the paddock yesterday getting to know 2 girls(dark bay mare & little grey welsh filly) my mate saved from the knackery on Fri at the Pakenham auctions. Its a bad time atm due to lack of feed sadly there were far to many that likely ended up as pet food :(

Nice score Lisa. I too have 2 horses at home, mine is Willow a 4yo off the track thoroughbred (who is challenging at times but lovely) and my daughter has Humphrey, a Welsh section E of A (gelding). Humphrey is a little rock, nothing phases him and you need a bomb under him to get him going. Mind you, when I hop on there's not a problem.

Start looking for hay now and stock up. If it's anything like it is here, it'll be difficult to find. I don't know what we're going to do if it doesn't rain properly soon. Thoroughbreds are notoriously difficult to keep condition on, your new boy doesn't look bad at all for drought conditions.

As for names.. without meeting him it's difficult. I like to get an idea of their looks and personality before naming them. Willow came to me with a horrible, hard to pronounce racing name. She was definately a 'Willow' though, slight and graceful.

Good luck with them.

How about Trigger?

My wife had a horse about the same size as yours (the big one, not the colt) and he was a real sook. He probably still is - we had to sell him to a good home when my wife's parents moved off their farm.
