Apart from looking nothing like a Territory, that front end would never make it on an Aussie Territory. Explorer maybe, just.

Ford's around the world have at various times shared a styling cue from other Fords around the world. I think the pillar shot you are showing is an example of this.

XB Sedan (AU)

1973 Maverick (US)

1985 European Granada

1987 Mercury Sable (US) Side window treatment similar.

I really don't like the look of that "three bar grill" or whatever they call it.

Much prefer the mesh on the Australian Falcons.

That Sable is ugly. But then GMHolden went and copied it for the 1996 Statesman. Ugly.

Yeah it's the old Cutlass Supreme.

Also, Sierra/Laser/Escort all shared similarities. The Laser and Escort may have been the same at one point?
I think the rear of the Falcon ute and the rear of the F-150 are closely related in styling.
Grille of the Ranger and F-150 were slightly reminiscent of each other at one point
Holden Commodore, Vauxhall Senator and Cadillac Catera
The early 1990s Chevy Lumina and Commodore/Senator had similar headlights and grille

AND....

Ford Australia is a division of Ford Motor Company, I don't think there is any "copying" going on here. The Territory and Freestyle were released around the same time, I don't think their styling similarities are co-incidental or from copying.

I see what you mean, the shape of the C pillar is like the Territory. Thats where the similarities end though.

There's definitely a growing family resemblance, and I don't think that's happened by accident

*deleted* every car shares styling cues, the territory infact shared stuff with other Ford US Soft-roaders anyway.

has the same glass wrap-around as current exployer.

from wiki
Appearance-wise, the Territory resembles the Ford Taurus X sold in North America. Both cars have similar styling cues—it was this that sold the Territory to Ford executives at the head office in Dearborn, Michigan. Simon Butterworth, who was behind the Ford Falcon facelift of 2003, styled the Territory but had worked with his American counterpart, J Mays, in working in the global Ford "DNA".

So the new Exployer looks like a the old Taurus X, it does.

Taurus X was Freestyler

That's only half the story, typical Wiki article

They forget to mention Scott Strong. The US designer doing a stint in Aus laid the foundation work for the Territory if I recall correctly. Butterworth came along later to finish it off. After the Territory 1/4 scale models were shown in the US, and the program won approval, the story goes that the US heavyweights were that impressed with how good it looked compared to theirs that Strongs Aussie stint was cut short and he was rushed home to work on the FreeStyle (later known as the Taurus X).

Scott Strong has since returned to finish his Aussie stint, working on ???

New Explorer has been revealed.

It doesn't look to bad at all, and the interior is a nice place.

Good Find, that interior is very nice for a North American Ford.

Ford NA has been trying to copy it's own RWD Explorer and Territory for years,
it started with Freestyle and ended with Taurus X, all pretty much sales failures
but Ford believes that the Explorer name on another D3 product will guarantee sales.

We'll see.....

Agreed (I would buy one in a flash) if all other aspects stacked up also.

The New Jeep Cherokee looks the goods as well & from what I have read actually drives ok on the road as well (would be a first for Grand Chekka).

I agree, not a bad looking unit. I'm not sure about the tail light and rear quarter treatment but Im sure it will grow on me. Kinda of Ssangyong Musso-ish

Also not keen on the grille or the X-Box controller for a Steering wheel
