Default White lines

A couple of years ago Vicroads introduced a few new road rules, one of them being that you were no longer allowed to cross solid white lines.

Since then I have seen the white lines more prominent especially along freeway exit and entry lanes.

But every day I dont see anyone taking the slightest notice of these lines. They just cross them as if they werent there. A few months ago I saw a car blatantly changing lanes across a white line and almost into a motorbike who was in front of me. The biker understandably gave the driver a big earful, pointing to the white line.

This morning I was held up for 10 mins when there was an accident at the Westgate Freeway entry from the Bolte Bridge heading East, I know there is a long white line there, but again drivers ignore it. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the cause of the accident.

Why introduce a law when they dont remind drivers? Waste of time introducing these road rules when they dont enforce them. Pity cameras are limited only to detecting speed or crossing red lights. Can't use them for anything else. Where's the police cars to ensure drivers follow ALL road rules?

They haven't figured out how to make cameras that can enforce it yet.

I don't see many of these, but the one near my house is only 50 metres long and everyone changes lanes there.
I will follow a car for 3kms on this road and as soon as they get to the 50 metre unbroken line, they change lanes. Not sure what was wrong with changing lanes during the previous 2950 metres.

I agree. I see people crossing lines like they don't exist. Authorities should follow up.
