I think he means a bulge on a high series bonnet. Yours would be on a low series bonnet because its an XR

I have not seen a high series bonnet with a bulge yet.
And I doubt you will get to see one either.
I think there was plans for one to be made ... but that got scrapped.

There was going to be one made from memory ... company kinda had issues ... and I doubt you will see it happen ... unless someone else decides to make one (but there'll need to be enough demand to get one made is decent numbers).

Yeah this would be the 'low series' bonnet by AWC (now firbesport or the like) then, I doubt that anyone would make another now. They do look great on an AU.

Is that Jims car? Cos that looks so damn hot! all up it probably cost me about 250 beans. 150 for the bonnet and 100 for materials. my mate had a bought the bulge only from ebay for a 100 dollars or something. I made a mould from it with casting plaster and made my own copy. from there bought the bonnet and fibreglassed/bogged it down... i wrote up a bit of a how too in my biuld (which i have yet to add pictures) here it is for those interested.

_____
....Anyway, ive quickly moved on to the next item of buisness and begun my Bonnet Bulge graft project. Now i picked up a second hand bonnet from aarons wreckers in rockingham for $150 beans - which at first i thought was kinda steep. But after a few more calls quoting $250+, i raced over the Aarons and picked it up. Now the bulge i made myself from a plaster mould that i also made from a mates bulge. I laid 4 sheets of matt fibreglass onto it, so its super strong! ....But i broke the mould in pulling it out *sigh* Never the less i ended up with my own handmade bulge.

Now for prepping both items. Firstly with the bulge i got out the grinder and cut the edges off only leaving about 15mm eathier side of the taper. I cut the back shallow, and the front even shallower (the less fibreglass there, the less bog and effort required to mould it into the correct contours). I then flipped it over, got the makita belt sander out and carefully sanded the base flaps down to around 1.5-2mm in thickness so they would be more plyable. The bonnet i simply stripped completed down (besides the middle patch under the bulge) with paint stripper.

Next i measured up and found a centreline on both bonnet and bulge and matched them up. I then painted the contacting edge of the bonnet with fibreglass resin so the bog and glue are more likely to stick. I let that cure for the day and begun gluing. I just rammed as much sikaflex as i could between the two pieces and stuck them together, weighting the bulge with 4x30kg bags of old cement on each coner to pull it in place. I let that set for a day and begun bogging up - oh what fun. Between each layer of bog i applied a layer of fibreglass resin to stop the bog cracking so easily (especially around the very edge of the bulge. At the moment ive done 85% of the sanding - i just need to run a few fine papers over the lot to get it as smooth as possible...."

cant wait til it gets sprayed!! I was saying to my mate the other day - it takes sooo much work to do. i reckon that i would have done atleast a $1000
worth of panel beating work! but its so worth it.

Hmm I might get mine fitted soon. The only issue is nobody wants to do it! Most shops are lazy and just say they will glue it down but that would look crap.
