Default Late 70's LTD - 351 question:

Late 70's LTD - 351 question:

Looking at grabbing a worn old 79 LTD. Now the guy seems to be sure it's an original 351 in it, but the factory diff is a 8"(. what ever) borg w NOT a 9". A mate suggested that only the 302 has the Borg w diff and all the 351's only had 9"s. Anyone able to confirm?

Nugget is 100% correct. Very last (last 6 months of production) P6 LTDs and ZH/XC 351 cars got BW disc brake diffs as the 9inches ran out. All LTDs have a T code 351 up until the six cylinder cars introduced. No 302 LTDs in the 70s.

November 1978 onwards - all XC Falcons and Fairmonts with factory 5.8 engines fitted with the 4 pinion 28 spline LSD BW diff. All had the Ford 9" before this. Final production of XC sedans and wagons was December 1978. Utes and vans continued up until May 1979 albeit in limted numbers

January 1979 onwards - all ZH and P6 LTD's with factory 5.8 engines fitted with the 4 pinion 28 spline LSD BW diff. All had the Ford 9" before this. Final production of all ZH Fairlanes and P6 LTD's March 1979 and February 1979 for the ZH Marquis.

FC LTD first manufactured in February/March 1979 (3 of) and then 146 in April 1979. All of these cars had the 5.8 fitted up until November 1979 when Ford made the option of the 4.1 6 cyilnder available.

Put more simply, all FC LTD's had the BW diff and all P6 LTD's had the Ford 9" fitted up until January 1979, BW's therein after.
