Stock or Modified?

Guys,
If you were to buy a second hand XR6T, would you prefer to buy stock, or modified?

Do you prefer to do your own mods, or have it already done for you?

Mine will be on the market in the next few months and I am not sure what will be the best way to sell it.

Thoughts?

Personally i would look for a stock as a rock car. You dont know what corners people cut when modifying there cars. I pefer to do all mods buy myself

my 3 fav lines in car adds are "goes hard", "never been thrashed" and "hardly blows any smoke"

I'd go the stock, all the fun is doing the mods, If you want a modded car, buy an import

I'd buy stock cause the reason you could be selling is because of problems your feeling coming on.

Try to return it all to stock and then sell all the parts of AFF, you'll also make more money this way.

Its a hard call thats for sure, and these days getting harder to pick as a tune is easily put back to stock.

Depends how much cash you have, you can save a heap buying something that has a couple of mods that you where going to do anyway.

Some people who mod their cars care about what they are doing, so it gets the best of everything and is installed properly; some are the opposite.

I know with my cars I keep a reciept of EVERYTHING done to it. I also dont buy a car that cannot prove when a mod was done, how much it cost and who did it.

For example my ute is pretty modded, Ive only given it a good tune and its fine. BUT, it came with nearly three years of receipts and log books.

Also you can tell a car by the seller.

Newer cars i would tend to go for the stock versions with log books, warranties etc....

The older the car the more you need to know about the car itself sorta speak

depends what kind of mods you are talking about. In terms of "looks", i like to buy a car that is as stock as possible, as things like personalised mag wheels and other visual mods are very personal and what you like may not be what i like etc For performance mods i would be happy either way. Depends what audience you are aiming to sell to as well. Some young gun might be happy to not have to do any work on it.

You'll probably get more for your add on bits sellign them seperate form the car, otherwise these mods tend to be swallowd up in the overall sale price of the car

Car is nearly 4 and the lease is up so its time to change the car over.

Car runs faultlessly ( not that this is a pitch ) and for a car that will run a mid-low 12 on street tyres, it will be cheap car for ~$20K

From a buyers point of view I would prefer your 293rwkw's over a stock car,as other's have said you can usually judge whether someone is being honest with you or not,and just because a car is stock doesnt meen it hasnt been thrashed.
I bought my 3v already modded and saved myself a huge amount of money,I paid around 25 grand for a car with over 10 grands worth of mods done to it,I could have bought a stock car for around 20 grand but still would have had to fork out around 10 grand for the mods already on my car.
Unless the car was still under warrenty or something told me the mods had been done on the cheap I wouldnt think twice about buying modded over un modded.

Stock for sure mate, you know the mod history. Why buy someone else's 'fun' when you can have your own modding a stock car.

Depending on how much i have to spend ideally would be stock and modify myself, but if your broke and can only just find enough $$ but not enough to modify then a few mods already would be handy.

But in the long run probley cost more if it wasnt looked after before hand!

As a rule, with a car like yours, unless there is a like minded car nut after it, the thing will get less $$ THAN IF IT WAS STOCK.

Well, thats what Ive observed with trade in values anyway.

I do like to do my own mods, but with the XR8 was easier to buy it modded already lol!

If the mechanical modification's are done by a reputable tuning house, with reciept's and dyno sheet's to prove the work, then I'd go for a modified example.

If buying already modified, Id say it depends who the seller was and if he/she seemed like the type of person who respected there car's and looked after it, or just thrashes the Christ out of it for Fun.

I would never buy a modified XR6 Turbo, but that's just me. I would not consider increasing the power unless the gearbox and engine have been strengthened first.

another vote for buying already modded.
if you're planning on modding it anyway, buy one that someone else has paid for the mods, since they'll usually be selling for a similar price to a stock one. unless the mods are major, then they'd probably be wanting some extra cash, but you'd still save money over buying a stocky and doing it yourself.
but if money's no object, then sure buy a stock one and have the fun of modding it yourself...

If it's modded, It wasn't fast enough therefore, It's been thrashed.

As a seller your probably better off to sell it stock and sell all the goodies seperatly, because mods don't usually get you any more money.

we bought a BA XR6T second hand ... we were looking for stock, because you know it hasn't (probably) been thrashed like a modified car would, and that way you can mod it yourself and get it EXACTLY how u want it!

Yeah, thats probably what I will do, gauging by the poll results.
Seems the stockies are more popular.

Mods are cheap though for the BA, so I might pick up another $1500 but that would be about it.

If it's been Modded you have to find a buyer who "likes" what you've done to it , Good example is "Ford3V" , the car was what he wanted , (win/win) but your buyers are limited.

With a Stocky , people Mod them to their own preferences

What my dad did to the old XB wouldn't take long to get back to stock , he kept 99% of the parts , even down to the steel rims & hubcaps.

Much prefer stock - I won't buy a modded car (unless we are just talking very light mod eg. an exhaust) and I think you will get much more for it if you sell the parts and return it to stock.

Modified to most buyers = young guys thrashed the guts out of it and the gearbox is probably going to break.

The last car I sold I had to return it to stock because I was getting buyer resitance because of the noise factor from the exhaust. I swaped the exhaust for stock system and in a week the car was sold. Turbo's are much harder to deal with and question is what have past mods done to the car even it it is returned to stock.

Stock is the way to go as a buyer. I recently spotted a supercharged BA GT claiming to have ~500+RWHP at the treads. While the hoon in me thought of how sweet it would be to cruise around in that thing, you just never know if it was built correctly and you could be buying yourself a money pit.

There's still a little part of me that's salivating at the thought of owning it but it's just too much of a risk something will let go 10 minutes after I drive it off the lot.

Definitely buy stock and mod it yourself. Thats where all the fun is.
