You could get a great streeter while on your P's from the from i6 mate.

An xr6 wouldn't be a bad choice.

you could:
- High stall (if auto)
- Upgrade diff gears (3.7 seems popular)
- GnD or similar intake
- Flash tune/edit
- exhaust (paccies etc + 2.5inch most common)

That would give you a nice streeter that is easy to drive, not cranky but still give you a smile when you press the go peddle.

Read the build threads too. Caspers and stavs cars comes to mind for great streeters.

Depends on what state he is in. Here in the "Smart State" power to weight means nothing. A new 190kw ford 6 or holden is ok, but a 100kw 253 hq is a no go.

in NSW you are not allowed to modify the car mechanically at all on Ps so rwally even exhaust and extractors are out

That's interesting...my car has got the full exhaust and my dear friends in the police force aren't at all concerned. Well, apart from a P plater driving a rather low and loud XR6 around town

Mate, I've owned two AU XR6's, and I seriously can't fault them. Get a series 2 or 3, an exhust, lowering (but don't go ultralows...unless you don't want to go over bumps lol, that's from experience), disc rotor upgrade to slotted, shift kit and new CAI you should be happy. Mine's kept quite a few of the other cars around town honest, but then again, most of the cars around here are fairly ordinary...

im in nsw......will just get a xr6 ba or a AU....AU's are alot cheaper so leaning towards a series 2-3 of them preferably a utility......are they any quicker at all then teh standard straight 6 4.0ltr?

In the AU the standard 6 had 157kw the XR6 hp had 164kw & the XR6 VCT had 172kw they had better gearing then the other models which helped too. The VCT got more equipment & IRS over the HP which brought an increase in weight so in a straight line there isn't much in it. The XR motors feel more different then the numbers suggest & are a much nicer freer revving motor.
The BA XR6 got the standard 182kw motor from the XT & only the better gearing to help it get along but with the extra weight over the AU so it's arguable which is quicker but the AU is often regarded as more special thanks to the Tickford tweaking.

Never had any trouble from the cops about my car and any mods, it doesnt exactly blend in and i dont exactly drive it slowly either. Never even had the bonnet popped, i wouldn't be to worried about what the law says in regards to mods.

bicepboy as a dad with kids that are growing fast I think its not a bad idea to start with a lower powered car to gain some more experience out there. I also have been hearing stories via the grapevine that quite a few of the fastest various car owners have been caught prosecuted and be catching buses for a few years due to disqualified licenses. Take it easy. The power is good fun if youn treat it with respect. If not people end up on buses or worse dead.
The wagon goes alright but I drive slow all day.I got smashed by 2 semi trilers a few years go so this reinforced the danger in my mind..

Sheez I sound like my old man...off to the mirror with grecian 2000 grey hair treatment!!
