relaxed driving standards... c'mon vic roads..

the more time i spend on our roads the more i question how in the hell these ppl are allowd to drive.. i mean really.. merge onto a highway doing 62 km/h!?! or how about not even speaking or reading english? how in the do these ppl read road signs? im no racist, what the hell? how did our allowed driving standard get so low, im a 24 yo old male, i drive a bf ii xr8 ute, IM NO HOON, ive completed several advanced driving courses, so maybe my standards are a bit higher than vic roads, but geez... what do u do?

To be honest, the whole reading of street signs thing has been blown out of proportion I think. Road signs are international standards with the colours and shapes. If you go to say... India or Germany, you'd still know what the road signs mean because its all standard.

In all seriousness you havent got a clue on poor driving standards until you try Singapore, China and India. I'm quite happy to drive in Australia after some of the crazy s#it I've seen up here.

Put anyone who holds an aust license in China and they wouldn't know what to do! 4 lanes is 6, no indicators, no reading signs or traffic signals ..... no impatience, no road rage, no accidents, no traffic jams. Might look crazy and total mahem but amazes me how things just move! Very happy to take taxi's and leave the driving to them!

Beijing, Shangai, Shantou, Shenzen a couple of months ago. Go over there for work now and again. Beijing the traffic is unbeleivable as in the flow and lack of bottle necks, Shangai is more like Melb traffic and Shantou is, well, different!

I was in Shanghai, Kunshan and Xuzhou two weeks ago.

I saw two accidents while up there plus I was almost involved in an accident where our bus driver almost ran up the back of a semi at 100k/h. But in saying that I was surprised I didn't see more accidents in Shanghai.

I go back for the month of August but not sure where they'll put me.

I saw one accident in Beijing, rear end and very minor, a million near misses every day and was just surprised how patient and the total organised kaos is. As I rekon, throw some drivers from here onto there roads and they would have a prang, road rage, or just a total panic attack within 3 minutes of driving.

I said to our driver one day, "If you used your horn like that in Melbourne you would end up with it inserted in other parts!!"
His reply, "But how do you tell someone you are there!" They use horns for what they should be for ..... not to tell someone you are pi$$ed!

Yeah I'll agree with that. I'll only be up there a month so its not bad. Mind you China is pretty good (just gotta learn more Chinese).

One guy I did meet on the plane back to Singapore (English guy that lives there) said that he drives his bike and sidecart around shanghi. He said there was 3 rules to surviving out there but I cant remember them.

I'm sure a lot of you have been to Bali and seen how the driving is there.

There seems to be no rules and everyone is pushing in front of each other - but funny enough it seems to work.

I saw one man driving a hino truck with no cab. Just sitting on top of the engine ( with a seat though ) and his steering wheel.

Mother, father 2 children all on one moped.

And around eight people sitting on top of a lorry.

So really we Australians haven't too much to complain about.

Was a real eye opener.
