Thanks for the feedback (1st post and all : )

If you had your time over would you choose Holden's six speed auto again? Its an American box isnt? I know the photos of the cabs where FG XR8 vs VE SS. But if I getting the GMH product id more than likley go SS. Also from a price point also the XR8 (with 18's) is around the SS price point.

yep the two piece cab chassie turned me off right from the beginning. Too American Pick Up style for me. Plus they added American F Series tail lights..sigh.
But at least the Ute inventor has now designed some new tail lights for it.
When I sat in the new FG Ute I was amazed at how comfy it is compared to the VE.
I would buy an FG ute because; there are sooo many Holden utes around already, they are more comfy than the Ve, i'd be Supporting ford Australia and its a traditional load carrier.

Love the pictures from Drive. Changed my mine, I think a black XR8 Ute lowered with some wider rubber on the rear would look as tough as nails.

Anyone know the answer to this one?

Also I have since posed the same question I did at the start of the thread in LS1 forums as I indicated I would. Some are saying there six speed auto isnt to bad and can be improved with a tune. A few have said like they have here drive both and them make your call. But you also see the ones that look through Ford coloured or Holden coloured glassess and its funny the differant spins that can put on the question raised.

The ugly join line as described on the Fords is the reason why the fords still have stronger engineering and can and do cop more abuse etc

On my third BA V8 and have not a single warranty complaint on any of the three

Only the XB and I think XD?? have ever outsold Holden in a single year but having said that I think that we are very lucky to have such good cars to choose from

Winton today on the tele after i mow the lawns and polish the mighty ute

This guy, he knows!

If you have to have an auto then get the Falcon. The auto in the VE isn't much chop at all. Both cars look hot so I guess it'll come down to which one you feel drives better.

My eyesight isn't the best... but a couple of things I notice....

The rear end doesn't sag much with all that weight on. Care to post another pic from a different angle so that we can actually see the load in the tray?

Btw, why isn't the load tied down? Surely those blocks would jump all over the shop if not properly secured?

The load would not be tied as the ute is in Plext's larger than normal back yard .

I've just about had enough of your suggestions that a fellow member of the admin team is lying.

1. The picture IS genuine.
2. The load is being carried on a private property and thus does not need to be secured.
3. The rear end doesn't sag much because it isn't a coil sprung rear Commodore - if that's hard on your ego, tough.

I trust this matter ends here.

Russ

I've just been through this and ordered my new car yesterday..
I ended up with the VE SSV ute 6sp. Now I'm a Ford gal but the value for $$ in the Holden won me over this time. Also got a great deal and was happy with trade in on my XR6 AU sedan.

I spent a lot of time comparing the two and found the Holden had the extra's I wanted where as Ford didn't have them standard.

In the end they are both great cars. I wasn't using it as a 'workhorse' so went with what I liked the look of best (still a bit unsure on the FG in anything other than black and really didn't want a black car) and what I got out of both cars.

2 weeks till I pick it up - counting down!!!

Fair enough, Russ. But I was asked to respond with a reason to my comment... and I did state that my eyesight was poor. In no way was I suggesting the mod was lying.

The matter ends right here... otherwise I know what's coming.

Wrong, compare the pay rates and they are nearly identical right across the 3 manufacturers. Having the same union keeps it all in near parity as they know what the others are getting.

I'd say its more of a case of Holden building cars in Adelaide, when Ford only build cars in Vic, although Holden build engines in Vic too.

Congrats TinaT on your knew ride, what are the main features in the VE SS not in the FG XR8? I havent done as much research as you as its like 12 months away for me. I know the VE SS has six in dash CD where as Ford's is a single CD standard. Could you option up a FG XR8 ute at the same price point as VE SSV?

I fully agree with Allen. Get the :ymca: SS :ymca:!! But you will only get 270kW with 98 octane in the SS so make sure you work out exactly how much RON is in your tank before guessing what rwkw you may or may not have.

Thanks for the largley great input guy's and gal's. The previous two post's above did not add any value to the thread other than confirm they appear to have big chips on there shoulders. Hopefully if they use the right ointment it may settle down with maturity...

Well, the way I see it, no matter which car you get, you'll be happy with it!

Test drive them both and go with what one YOU like more.
