Checked on my ST - It was built April 2002 (04/02). They were made for the 10th anniversary of the XR and the introduction of the 'Blueprint' colour. Only available in 4 colours - Blueprint, Liquid Silver, Silhouette and Venom. Sedan only (auto and manual transmission).

Hope that info helps. Are you going to make an online database for this? It'd be a damn good idea!

Thanks for the info, will update, re online data, looks like something has started may as well get all the info, colours, specks, common mods, pictures etc.

as for data base might see if i can get the mods to give me a thread and it can be built here on FFAU ( if thats a good idea ? but yes why not gather as much info as possible and see if it can be organised in some way, rather a community type project with many people inputting, would be good

True in a literal sense and from a 'performance' view but I bought my EB1 brand new and was offered various treatments by Fords new 'mods wing' - a company called tickford they told me. Only options at the time were Mullins wheels, tow bars, soon-to-come body kits and sunrooves. I scored a free tickford installed towbar, it gave the XR8 a huge performance edge - never been overtaken by a boat, trailer or caravan since I've owned her.

The original build sheet that came with mine has the teletyped 'special instructions' of: "Fit Spoiler" and "V8" Engine (their quotes not mine).

December 1991 EBI XR8 which is pretty early as I am lead to believe it was officially released Bathurst weekend 1991?

I beleive it was a tickford designation from the UK. They had the XR4i escort, (which was the performance model) so they thought an XR6 and 8 would tie in well with that model designation

XR is "Experimental Racer"

i heard XR came from " eXtreme Racing"

As for the use of the XR it was fords 66XR falcon that started the XR here in AUstralia.

The XR6 name was first used on a South African Cortina.
The name, XR, just sounds sporty.

I believe the xr8 name was first used in south africa aswell. It was used in 1984 on the sierra XR8 ?? AUSSIE CAR

The XR name came from the Euro XR models, XR4 etc. Tickford, being a British company, decided to contine the XR theme with their Aussie models

I think it stands for experimental racing?

I believe the very first XRs are the Fiesta XR2 and the Escort XR3i (both released around 1980-1981). AUSSIE MODELS ?

Im surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but Tickford's first vehicle here was actually the XR2 Capri, IN AUS ?

followed by the EBII S XR6 and GT
EBI XR8s wernt Tickfords, they were just S-Pacs with a V8

I'm pretty sure I read that australia also had an XR-1? MORE Q THAN A'S WAS THERE ?

1967 or 68 XR7 Mercury Cougar was when XR was 1st used

And, little known fact, the EL XR6 was designed by a 5 year old child, high on red cordial:
"I wanna car! Big spoiler! Big wheels! LITTLE LIGHTS!!! Skirts skirts skirts! A bonnet scoop! Another one! Like a BEAR scratched it!!! RED STRIPE!!!"

Any credibility to those urban myths?

EB 1 S-XR8 - I thought that was Ford, the EB 2 S-XR8 was tickford??

Wrong, all ED XR's got the quad light front, also EB2 was the first XR6, and there was a 2 week run without smartlock

I thought they called the sports falcons XR6/8's because the first GT was an XR?

More than likely it was to flow on from the Poms with their XR2, XR3 and XR4's.

Funny how over there the number refers to the doors, not the cylinders. Imagine the look on their faces when they heard about our XR8's!!! Some weird hi perf limo!!

Yep, although that car is dead now... also, EB XR's came with Momo steering wheels standard, and ED's they were an option

1967 or 68 XR7 Mercury Cougar was when XR was 1st used.
XR is "Experimental Racer"

from one of the early posters
As far as I am aware the first time the nomenclature was used
3 pages later we are still going

Interesting thread. I'd like to know how many EF XR6's sedans were built, and how many were manual? I think that auto was an option as they came out standard in a manual?
