Buying an 09 Focus

Hi guys,
Looking at buying the 2009 Focus LX Hatch. Hoping someone could give me some feedback on performance? Any Problems they have had with it? Fuel Economy?

Anyone had issues with the automatic or should I keep away from them?
Tossed up whether I should buy a 2006 Zetec second hand or just go with the new model and decided to go with the new model.

Does anyone think I should just get the base model CL Hatch and buy some wheels for it?

Your help is appreciated.

P.S. Never owned a focus so sorry for amateur questions.

Have just recently purchased an '08 CL. Also brand new. If you dont mind last years look, then you can still buy a CL focus with smooth pack for about $18K. Not bad value for money.

I only have good things to say, but have only just done 1000km, so fingers crossed, no probs yet. Great car to drive after driving a current and previous model Corolla for tha last few years. Easily better quality, handling and power.

The Corolla has better resale value because of its reputation for long / trouble free life. The trade off is a dull average handling car. High Resale value is something which seems to take a long time to earn and is easily lost. Even the 10 year power train warranty of Mitisubishi cars does not help their replutation.

My TDCI is a lovely car to drive ( except that first gear is really really low: Must be designed for pulling rival makes out of bogs!)

Yes agree Marg99, the Corolla does have the best resale value out there.

Ask any RACV, RAA or NRMA tech' and they will say Corolla has the lowest call out.

I also cant stand the high centre console, which is why we eventually got rid of ours.

Has there been any issues with the automatic focus' from past threads or current owners? My partner stresses about driving or even learning to drive a manual... so auto could be on the cards.

When we were shopping around we found the focus the best.

It depends what you want from your car......But suffice to say an auto and 4cyl car ain't going to win any drag races anytime. If you want a more sprightly and zippy car go the manual but there is nothing wrong with the auto.

I would consider looking at a CL with smooth pack against the LX.......

Fuel economy remember that you will need 95 RON petrol but we were getting about 9's on 95/98 RON.
