According to the invoice the bulb was $4. The rest is labour + GST.

Labour is a rip off on that one!

When it comes to genuine bulbs this reminds me of my garage door bulb. It blew and I bought the same thing from a regular shop and it did not work. In the end I got in touch with the garage company and I needed to buy a "special" version of it.

Looks exactly the same but it works. Apparently in this application this bulb can take the vibration of the door versus a normal bulb blowing more often.

How they get it to only work with theirs I don't know.

$30 to change a globe holy smokes thats a lot of moola i should change occupations and go door to door offering to change light globes for lonely housewives

You'll probably find there's a minimum labour charge, also on average it costs $30 just to raise an invoice...
I know it sounds unfair on the surface but Id say the dealer is well and truely behind charging you just $32.00

My sister got the local holden dealer to change the headlight bulb. to do this, he removed the entire front bumper. no, he didn't use the little access panel in the wheel arch. Duh, can't read the manual maybe.

I've had bulbs done under warranty so I'll agree with you there.

As for a fault blowing the fuse first is not always the case. If the voltage is spiking the fuse could be holding out but the filament could be getting the spikes enough times to blow the filament. As the fuse will be a 5/10amp fuse its gonna take 5/10+ amps to blow it which the draw from the bulb will not.
