Default Stereo/Odom. Backlight Staying On

G'day,
I have just got a near new LV zetec focus and when you lock the car the red backlight on the stereo and on the odometer stays on for about 5-10 mins. the stereo goes out first and then the odometer a couple of mins later.

I can't believe this is a 'feature' for it just attracts attention to your car after it has been parked at night.

Anyone come across this? Is it a 'feature' or a bug?

Cheers
John

I have an LV diesel which does the same thing. I didn't notice it for a while but did after a few weeks. Wasn't sure then if it was normal but just put it down to one of quirky little things that the Focus does.

It's normal.

Buggered if I know why, but it is normal.

I find it a little embarrassing as it displays my fuel consumption to anyone that walks past :/

I found that the stereo will turn off as soon as you lock the car. The odometer stays on for about 5-10mins. I think this allows you to quickly check your odometer read out in case you need it. Maybe you're on a fleet and need to quote the kms when paying for fuel (one use of it)

My LS's odo screen stays on haven't stuck around with it long enough to watch it go out. Radio screen doesn't stay on at all.

not sure but it might be related to the fact that power stays on for a while after the key is taken out/locked

at least in my LT, the stereo's light goes off but if you hit the power button you will get to listen to it for a while. can't remember if it was 20 minutes or 1 hour. cigarette lighter also stays on for about that long too. handy in some cases.

not sure about the odo though, that one's always puzzled me.

Pity power to the windows doesn't stay on, the moment I turn the engine off I haven't got any power to them to put them up :(

That one really annoys me too ! Is that just the LV or all Focii? Hopefully they will change that with the next model.

The trick with the stereo is normal, it's been a feature since the LR

I don't know about LS/LT models but in my LV if you hold the lock button down, it'll close all the windows and sunroof if you've got one.
Works the same when you unlock the car too.

LS is the same with the windows - TJ, think that trick only works on Zetec models up. its in the manual to make you frustrated for those who dont have it. check out 'global locking' I believe its called.

I'm gonna try that in my LS to see if it does shut all the Windows! Thanks!

On the LS, hold the keyfob Lock button for a few seconds and the windows will wind up all the way. Same goes for unlock button, windows will wind down all the way.

I can confirm that the lock winds the windows up.

I can also confirm that unlock winds them all down.

Cheers for the awesome info people!

This is in an LS Zetec by the way.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I asked the question of Ford when in for service and they said it is normal for the LV to leave backlighting on for several mins after car has been locked....could not give a reason why though!
Leaving these lights on for so long is just ridiculous if you ask me and just uneccessarily attracts attention to your car after you have left.
1 minute I could deal with but 10 mins is just plain stupid.
rant over!
cheers
