Default Does anyone need more stopping power?

I just picked up my brake rotors after having them machined and found these bad boys on the front counter.

They have 12 piston calipers and the rotor absolutely dwarfed my 355 mm diameter FPV rotors. Apparently they are a custom build for a Hummer and will not fit under any wheel under 22" diameter. That brake pad looks like it covers about 40% of the rotor, you would have to be a maniac to cook these. I would hate to see the cost of them though.

I want a set for the Mini!

but since the hummer weighs 450 tonnes, it's still possible lol

I forgot to ask, I was speechless. I would have to estimate they are pushing 400 mm in rotor diameter, if not more. They made my FPV rotors look like stock falcon rotors.

The sad thing is the H3 (what these brakes a built for) is only about 300 kg heavier than a falcon.

The little caliper that you can see part of in the picture is a piddly little 6 spot, it looks tiny compared to this monster.

Isn't a car's braking force determined by its tyre grip, and it comes to a point where super brakes will no longer make a difference?

Yes you are right, but the bigger brakes allow for repeated and high speed stops, both of which will rapidly cook a smaller set-up, rendering it useless in applying pressure and stopping power to the tyre.
A stock set-up on a falcon can boil stock fluid from one 220km/h to zero maximal braking effort. That means you don't get to stop twice.

How many 220 to 0 braking sessions will an FPV Brembo setup withstand ? But perhaps a parachute would be a more practical and cost-effective solution

Maybe 2 but that is not what they are designed for, it takes serious hardware to withstand that sort of punishment.

Yeah, hit the brakes and end up dragging your face on the bitumen.
It would be funny seeing a car doing stoppies like done on high power sport bikes.

Yeah, look like cheap crap to me (they may be expensive however).
Monobloc calipers or nothing.
Also I wouldn't trust my brakes to some yum cha manufacturer. Brembo, AP, Alcon.

As for what are the FPV brakes up to. Plenty.
38 laps of Wakefield, one stop from over 200, another from over 180, and 10 other corners.

They're black now. permanently.

I’d like to see the ADR approvals on those.
Completely ineffective design, no tapered piston sizes, terrible looking rotors. This is the crap that comes out of China that idiots put on their imports because they are a quarter of the price of Brembo’s…. “but they got more pistons then Brembo’s bro!”

Looks like my GTP brakes. Symmons plains was enough to send my pedal to the floor and burn the rubber seals on the pistons ($800 to replace). They did not like flat out running for more than 5 laps before giving up the ghost

Not sure how you think you can tell how there is no stepping in the piston diameters from that pic, can you tell from the outside of a brembo 6 spot caliper that the pistons are of different diameters?

As for the quality, who know but I was under the impression they are not made in china and from what I can find they may be made by Stop Tech. They also appear to be made by the same mob that make the 6 spot next to it. In the workshop there is Porsche race car with the same brand calipers in 8 spot and a more conventional 3 piece slotted rotor.

Also not sure why you say the rotors are terrible, it it because if the slotting? If so it is not that much different to the FPV eccentric smoothing a few years ago in the BA range.

The place these brakes were at is a very reputable shop with many race cars in their stable, I am sure they do not place thierry reputation on shoddy Chinese brakes marketed on eBay, if they do I would be disappointed.

With those bad boys you could be doing 15km/h over the speed limit and not even bruise his leg.
