Ebay scam. How many of you have seen this xb coupe for sale

Heyall, i hate to say this but i am a ebay nut. i scan for xa xb xc every day.
how many of you have noticed this car and how it is advertised...
i know i have seen this car on and off over the last 3 yrs and its really starting to p@ss me off.

I have tried to sell an item or two on ebay & have relisted them a few times with no buyers....does not make me a scammer, so the guy trying to sell the XB could be in same position or he probably has had some non payers......does happen.

Might not be a scam but i have seen this about 7 times in the last 3 yrs. Same photos every time..
But what gets me is the 24 hr full payment must be made after purchase

There was a burnt orange coupe on ebay a while ago that was a scam which I did report
If there is any one in Tassie that could make contact with the seller and ask to inspect the car, that may be the only way to know for sure

I must admit the only way I would buy a car interstate is to fly interstate and pay for it once I've seen it and then make my own arrangements to get it home

Plates are wrong state but there might be a story to it , it's quite possible to have an independent mechanic inspect it if you don't have anyone down there who can , they must have contacts with the racv or equivalent in your state ?

I don't know that the price is "too cheap"...it's not like it's a GT, only a GS with a few options. XB coupes are hardly rocking-horse-poo rare and come up for sale quite often. The bubble burst long ago and they're getting back to reality I think.

An example of how prices have fallen on classic Aussie cars is Valiants...about five years ago I was looking for a Valiant, and came across several two door VE/F/G models...back then even slightly ratty but roadworthy and registered ones were going for well over $25,000 up to over $30,000 for excellent ones. Now on Ebay you can find them for down around $10,000 for very good ones.
Same with Falcons...people were paying stupid money for relatively common models only five to ten years ago.

There was a race C4 transmission on Ebay this week in victoria , funny thing is the picture was of a trans i built on my work bench lol .. Seller must have liked my pic better

I bought a car from qld once that had vic rego and was all good they mowed there but kept the car registered in vic

That sort of thing used to happen a lot...probably still does...because of the differences in registration between the states. If you can keep a residence in one state, that's the registered adress of the vehicle. I even worked with one guy whose old V8 Fairlane was registered at his mothers adress in either NSW or Vic (don't remember which, but at the time it was way cheaper for a V8 in that state than in QLD) even though he'd been living in Queensland for a few years.

The plates look sus... the main picture.. I don't know, the lean on the letters looks as if it was photoshopped into the picture???

I know the market has come down, but a GS in that condition and colour combo is going to be a bit more then $18K. 25K would be more like it and even then a good score.

The ebay listing seems to have vanished.

Was this a really schmick Mulberry GS coupe by any chance? If so it was recently listed as being in Innisfail Far North Qld. It certainly looked a way better car than what the asking price suggested. That particular listing had scam written all over it!

The scam is obviously aimed at getting one or multiple people to pay a substantial sum of cash via internet transfer or similar as a type of holding deposit prior to inspecting or picking up the car in person

Being in a somewhat isolated place like Tassie makes the scheme work even better.

The more genuine they can make the non existant car seem then the more gullible people will be game to put some sort of $ down w/out seeing it.

You see the car,you get it inspected, if your the winner and a deposit is required, then theres minimal issue
IF you bid on something that seems to good to be true it probably is
24 hours deposit sorts all the "payment plan" specialist and alot of tyre kickers
Anything i put on egay,always has inspections welcome,winning bidder must contact within 24 hours, full payment must be recieved within 7 days
Its no bigger scam than people using paypal,put a hold on the funds,saying they paid it to paypal turning up taking the goods, then getting paypal to return the funds to the buyer

Commonsense, that many have forgetten due to electronic world, goes along way

people are in too much of a rush, trust what they see printed (incl pics) and want a bargain

the 'seller' can end up with a lot of $ if he sells the car multiple times

I imagine a few people booked flights or whatever to Tassie after putting down their deposit and would be a bit disappointed by now

Even face to face sales can be a scam! I remember seeing a clip on youtube where a couple were selling their Focus in the UK. They met several buyers, all of which left a deposit. All the buyers were told to return at the same time in a few days to collect.

They all got their money back as it was a setup highlighting how diligent you need to be when buying a car. Some of the buyers, once they knew they had been done were not impressed.
