Default electronic speedo's

Hi All,

Does the Focus or other later model small fords have electronic speedo's and if so where is the speed sensor located. Tired of my inaccurate manual one in escort and want to replace it with electronic one. Don't think transmission operated sensor will work- have a sierra 5 speed and don't know about speedo drive configuration. Any pointers? Know gps operated ones are about but want to keep round gauge in the dash type.
Cheers,

Len

Round ones which are still GPS - tunnels would be an issue though.

I'm fairly sure in modern cars they pick up the speed from a wheel speed sensor which might be an issue.

Thanks Damo- my car runs 15 inch wheels like the focus, so a wheel operated sensor might be ok. Have seen speedhut ones- bit pricey. Was looking to hit local wreckers and go from there. Might have to pick their brains if no definite info is available.
Cheers Len

If you want to have some fun over a weekend and enjoy to tinker buy a bike speedo (pedal bike) and fit it.

Don't laugh - I fitted one to my Bugeye Sprite due to the same issue and you could input the tyre diameter to the MM and was still registering the correct speed at 150km/h..

$40 and a few hrs....

Oh, and works fine in tunnels too.

Hi. The BA uses a signal from the ABS module. The ABS module uses both rear sensors to work out what signal to send out to the power train module. Cheers MD
