Why is it American's add a "g" when pronouncing "Luxury"? As in "Luguary".

Or adding a "w" to "Jaguar"? As in "Jagwuar".

I have trouble with correct pronunciation of bechamel. To me it looks like a Middle Eastern word, so the ch should be pronounced like a “kh”.

Aluminum instead of aluminium. I mean, if it's just too hard to pronounce, just drop a letter

Why is it that people don't take into account thermal mass, thermal radiation or thermal reflection when landscaping their house?

This house is facing almost directly to the north west. With the lack of eaves and shading to the large windows to the living areas, this place is going to be a sweat box during summer.

I get why they've done what they've done, but when does convenience outweigh on gong costs of cooling? I'm sure if I raised with the builder, who now lives in the house, he'd just say hell run a/c and it will all be fine

The mind boggles.

Deal with this on an almost daily basis.

The garden in a new build is always an afterthought. They build the biggest house they are allowed to, then expect miracles on plant selection to fit very tightly defined spaces left for garden.

Think a 300mm gap along the driveway, then wanting a plant to screen the fence that won't grow too wide or need pruning. There are literally two choices, but most expect to be able to custom design a plant to suit those restrictive requirements in the same way they did choosing kitchen cabinets or door hardware.

Another, wanting a shade tree that only grows 3 meters tall so that it won't drop leaves in the gutter or annoy the neighbor. First of all, there is very little choice in evergreen trees that only grow to 3 meters, generally those are called shrubs. Also, 3 meters is not going to shade di.k! But try telling that to someone who has, again, spent the last 12 months choosing from a never-ending array of bathroom fittings and tile choices.

So, that picture above is common. Low maintenance is what its called, one that will lead to the A/C running all summer long.

People treat the outside of their house like the inside, neat and completely in control. One of my clients is a retired doctor, built an amazing high end house, had the garden designed and landscaped by a top landscaper. I go there to clip, trim and spray pests where appropriate. The front yard has some crepe myrtle next to the neighbours fence, old bloke comes out ropable.
“ THE FLOWERS! THE FLOWERS!” *Gestures wildly at the beautiful crepe myrtle lipan growing 10cm onto his side of the fence.
“CUT THEM OFF! THEYRE FALLING ON MY DRIVEWAY MAKING A MESS!!!!
Like fair dinkum, take a chill pill mate, that reaction and mental distress will shorten your life

The neighbor of one of my ex-clients used to wait for the moment I would be blowing clippings and debris from cutting the edges back onto the lawn before mowing, then hassle me about the mess that blows into his driveway. Mess that wasn't necessarily made by me for that matter, but I always like to leave the property and surrounds as clean as possible no matter where the leaves or mess came from.

One day, the wind was blowing hard, making it near impossible to get every last leaf that was coming down from the shedding Camphor Laurels. Old mate comes out and starts having a hissy fit about the mess coming into his driveway. I had had enough and was already aggravated by the wind, so I screamed at him that "it's bloody nature mate, what do you expect me to do........." or words to that effect. He disappeared then.

There also seems to be an assumption that leaf blowers are just a noisy nuisance that move mess from one spot to another. As in, out onto the road or into the next-door neighbor's yard. When used by some lazy old pri'k, then that can be the case. For someone who makes a living from using a leaf blower as efficiently as possible, there is no way a pro is going to do that and risk bad word of mouth.

I once had a nosy woman come and tell me to stop blowing leaves and twigs onto the road. That's something I have always been conscious of NOT doing from the very beginning of my business 20 years ago. What this stupid woman didn't account for was the gum tree that creates this mess constantly sheds all over the road and surrounding pavement. When I would blow out the gutters and surrounding areas back onto the lawn prior to cutting, she was seeing the clean area next to the uncleaned road and assumed I had blown it into the street. I'm a diligent tradesman and often go beyond what is required, but I AM NOT CLEANING THE ENTIRE ROAD just for her.

Why is it Ghislaine Maxwell is in jail for providing a criminal service but none of her clients are with her for using that same service?

That would be because her clients were very high profile millionaires with lots of contacts that could get them out of anything they did wrong and not worth the courts time or resources to get nowhere.

We do have to remember that jail is for all the small fish, so the big fish can get on with their lives in the real world without being bothered by the small ones

Sure they get a big one every now and then, but its easier to catch the little ones and make a big song and dance about it.

Why is it when you see a reciprocating saw fitted with a metal blade slice straight through nails in timber on the telly, but in real life it takes a lot of effort?

WHY IS IT that people who you'd expect to know better, instead of spending $100k on a 20 year old machine from a known manufacturer with a good reputation, will spend that same $100k on a brand new machine from a company who's only reputation is from multiple BAD google reviews and mentions of lawsuits?

Place I used to work for had a front end loader that was the bane of my existence, the manufacturers only agent in Australia couldnt tell me for certain which air cleaner element it was supposed to have, the only cross reference I could find for the engine oil filter that I could find was a hydraulic filter, and we eventually gave up trying to find the transmission and fuel filters!
Add to this an insanely clunky transmission, it wouldnt lift more than 1500kg in the bucket (but was rated at 2500kg) but.... "yeah, it was cheap"

Given its illegal to park your car across a footpath, even in your driveway, why is it so many houses are built with not enough room to park a car between the garage and the footpath?

Because it's a competition to see who has the biggest house in the street. It's also a byproduct of people filling the garage full of useless crap, in turn the car sits in the street or on the driveway.

I think some are based on how hard you depress the brake pedal. see if that makes a difference in the mazda

Nah, done that.
There's a green light comes on the dash to indicate the stop start is functional, but then it just goes out.
When all else fails, read the handbook.
Remember when they were about 20 pages, now they're a novel.

This is 100% correct for a CX5. We have one and I always hold the brakes at different pressure depending on how long I think I’ll be stopped for.
It’s honestly one of the best stop start systems I’ve ever used. It’s great not having to disable it the second I start the engine like I do with every other brand I’ve driven with a stop start system

Yes, I knew about pressure on brake pedal.
Problem has been resolved, too many short trips, battery not getting juiced up.
Done a few long drives and back to normal

The start stop is a pain in the a$$ and will not work under certain conditions we have the same thing on the Merc

Cold engine
Fuel injection learning is underway
Battery is depleted
Car driven only a short distance
Bonnet, door or boot is open
Driver’s seatbelt not fastened
Aircon is in airflow mode or maximum cooling
Aircon is cooling interior
Problem with keyless entry
Steering wheel is being operated
Problem with brake vacuum
High or low ambient temperature
Low atmospheric pressure ( at altitude)
Stopped on a steep slope
