I was just wondering is the difference in offest no an E series that much different to an AU/BA?
Has anyone actually tried bolting one on and see if it rubs on anything? I know it seems a bit reckless, but its worth a crack!

They are WAY off. Need adaptors if you want to use AU-> rims on e-series.

What spindle does it hit? Do you mean the stub axle hits the centre cap?

Even if you do get them to fit without hitting anything, the wheel is going to sit futher into the guard than the stardard wheel. The offset difference is something like 4cm I think. Isnt this a) going to look crap - like an XA falcon with 195's, and b) make the cars handling worse?

its gonna make it look like an XA-XC coupe with 185's LOL
the rear is easy - an AU ive axle diff bolts straight in, and IRS really isnt hard to fit either |

my mates got a set of spacers for a falcon just sitting there, how big would the spacer have to be in mm terms for the rims to fit on the front? |

And if you did get it to fit, the track difference would be outside the legal specifications. And using adaptor plate is illegal too.

adapter plates AFAIK are fine, if TTF sell them to you then how can they be illegal?

ohh..you cant use that analogy..NOS and adapters are very different things (der!).
How can a tyre shop encourage you to buy a style of rim, show you the adapters and then not tell you that they are illegal, they will get there **** sued. NOS Im sure is "meant" to be used on track; therefore if someone is dumb enough to use it on the street then thats their issue.

As it has been said many times before - spacers are illegal - adaptors are legal. How do you tell them apart? Spacers sit between the rim and the wheel, and basically push the wheel further out on the wheel studs. Adaptors bolt onto your wheel studs and have there own threads that the wheel bolts on to.

i'm not trying to say Adapters are illegal.
I'm just saying to find these things out and don't just go by what a Tyre place says, its more money for them remember... places sell spacers too... i'm sure they don't tell u they're illegal all the time!

yep agreed. DOnt get legal advice from the net.
if you really are concerned about the legality of it then go to your local vicroads and ask them about it. They will give you a Vehicle Modifications FAQ which you should be able to use should the legality of adapters/spacers ever come up (like an insurance claim...). Check the date on it as well cause mine was at least a year and a bit old. If you cant get a straight answer and something in writing them get them to put you onto someone that can.
