Default how can i find out 6cyl engine year model

Just had a used replacement 6cyl engine put in our 2002 AU3, the mechanic has already changed the engine number to our car, Was wondering if there is somewhere i can find out what hear model car it came out of? , and i know this is a long shot but how many kms its done?..... any help greatly appreciated. ..... btw the mechanic wasnt sure as he had it delivered from a wreckers.... thanks

Easiest way to tell if it's a S1 or an S2/S3 is the exhaust heat shield
in the s1's it's fairly smooth with pinholes, looks like a colander
s2/s3 it's fairly rough, like some sort of aircon filter or something
other than that the engine number would match up as part of the vin i think
add that number to the rest of the vin and chuck it in a department of transport type website and it might tell you

Im not sure if the car is written off whether it will be in the register...
