20s and AU fairlane/falcon

hey guys

im looking at getting 20s for my fairlane soon

and 1 place said to go 225/35/R20 on the front and the same or larger width on the rear

now i was wondering if this tyre would have the sufficient load rating for a fairlane.. i beleive they need a 95 load rating..

is there any 20" tyre in 225 that conforms to this requirment of 95 load rating??

also what other clearance issues is there??
im presuming ill need the guards rolled ??

can i go for a 235 tyre on the front with no trouble??

also what tyres did the TE/TS/TL series come with on their 18s?? as to legal fitting requirments for overall diameter changing less than 15mm

i posted this in here as im likley to get more responses from here than in the tyre section plus you guys would know as you drive AUs

Are these rims going to have the right offset, or do you intend to stick with the e-series offset?

According to the Tyre size calculator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html, you actually need to run 225/30/20 (0% difference to 235/45/17 or 215/55/16) or 235/30/20 (+0.9% difference) or 235/25/20 (+0.9% difference). 225/35/20 would still be OK (just), but your speedo would be around +3.5% (slow), so 100 on your speedo would actually be around 104.

Tempe tyres only have Nankang NS2 in 245/35/20 95Y or 255/35/20 97Y, both of which result in a rolling diameter that is too big for an AU (more than 5% variance from standard rolling diameter). Physically the 255 would fit easily on the back, but it would not be legal because of the rolling diameter being around 7% too tall. A 255/30/20 would be OK for the back, as it's only 2% difference, but I couldn't find any tyres in that size.

Tempe have the Nitto NT555 in 225/35/20 or 235/35/20 or Nitto Neo Gen in 225/30/20 (which is the ideal size if you have 7.5 or 8" rims).

That's about all I could find in 15 minutes or so. Look forward to seeing what you get.

im going with AU offset not Eseries

im going the DUB / XHP shoreline rim got quoted $2900 with tyres fitted balanced and wheel alignment with locknuts from F1 wheel and tyre on the gold coast

(dub rim is 4500 with tyres form tempe..xhp is 2500 with tyres from tempe.. and they are an identical rim.. just like nike and dunlop i spose.. same thing different brand so im going XHP

i think the main thing im concerned about is the load ratings..

as the overall diameter should be OK with the 235/35/R20 as the LTD came with 225/55/R16 and the TL50 came with 18s with ?? i dunno what tyres

so useing the what came stock rule.. the 235 SHOULD be ok.. but 225 in the front due to upper ball joint clearance issues??

If you get Nankang 235s, they are actually only 215mm across the top of the tread when fitted to an 8" rim, so they might be OK. I have 235s on both my AUs, but on 18" rims - as the rolling diamater is almost the same, 235/35/20 may be OK - just get them to trial fit before you pay.

was just up the tyre shop
they put 245/35/R20 kumho tyres on and they hit the front upper ball joint
stupid ford engineering:( why would you put somthing like that so close to the tyre!

so they are doing alot of ringing around and finding out exactly what we need and yeah
should have the rims on tommorow

Just get 225/35/20 for the front. They should clear the upper balljoint. Or use an angle grinder (J/K).

Oh, and don't forget to post pics - this should look GREAT!!

im getting 225/30/R20 for the front with the CORRECT load rating (reinforced)
they cost $75 more PER TYRE but will fit perfect on the front
and give the correct rolling diameter too WOOT

cant wait!!!
less than 24 hours till im rollin on sunshine!!

I think the issue your gonna have is its so much chrome that the reflection off them is going to blind oncomming traffice

225 isn't too thin? I got 245 on the front but maybe its different with 19" wheels or the falcons?

it was because they had 245/35/R20 instead of the correct 245/30/R20
but im going to be runing 245/35/R20 on the rear and 225/30/R20 with reinforcing so brings both above the CORRECT load rating!!

the rears will be replaced with 30 profile next tyre change (cost is the issue)

as my msn nick name states.. rollin on sunshine

You may get defected for that combo (I suppose only if you're really unlucky). You are only supposed to run a lower profile on the rear compared to the front. eg 235/40/18 front, 265/35/18 rear - just an example. It is illegal to run the lower profile on the front.

what state is that in JC?? im in QLD

the wheel shop mentioned nothing about that??

im led to believe that you can have any wheel and tyre combo you like as long as it doenst exceed the original overall diameter by more than 15mm and width by 1.25% (or somthing like that)

its all in the modification guide on the QLD DOT site

spose ill find out eventually!

and from my experience cops check the front tyres most of the time anyway
as long as the back tyres dont look like they are bald they dont care.

and if they are gettng that picky your usually faced with a fine for somthing like a empty washer bottle and a dirty rear window LOL
