Question URGENT - Cold Start Power Loss

Anyone with any idea?

For the first 2 mins on the cold start drive cycle, the ST is hesitating badly to the extent that I can't upshift to 2nd gear in fear of it stalling.

Coil Pack/Plugs/Leads/Sensors???

I am driving to Brisbane on Friday, Ford can't have the car until Thursday and want it on an overnight to see for themselves....can't do this as need to leave Friday!!!

Any advice would be much appreciated...maybe someones experienced a similar issue on their Focus...even a std 2.0L?

Mine also runs a bit rough for the first minute or so, and this is especially true when the ambient temps are very low, however, I have not experienced the problem to the extent where I am worried about the car stalling. I always let mine warm up for at least 2 minutes before driving off, and it’s normally only 90 seconds into the drive before the K&N is thriving on the cold air and the car is running like a dream.

I think this is just a normal symptom of the ST170 ECU, and nothing to be overly concerned about. Having said that, I have noticed mine getting worse as it approaches its first major service (which I won’t have to worry about as I just sold it), so it is possible that the severity of the problem is related to the age of the plugs, leads, filters etc.

I give my Focus at least 5 minutes to warm up

Running rich perhaps on cold start, could be dumping a little too much fuel by overcompensating for the extra rich air coming in (cold, dense air). My guess anyway. As to what's causing it... could be anything from a dodgy O2 sensor that's not warming up downstream from the cat converter? Sounds like it could be running rich though and flooding the injectors at low to mid revs. Supports the cold weather/air theory anyway.

Try if you have an aftermarket filter, try replacing the original and disconnecting your battery for half an hour, then start it the next morning. Might help restore some normality into the induction.air flow sensors. Just a thought.
