Cleaning my engine bay

man ive been flooding this place with post... But hey - its better to ask than assume.

If i want to clean the highlighted area on the below pic, what would i use ?? Would i wash it off with water after ???

I was thinking metho on a damp rag, but i really have NFI.

Try some degreaser and if that doesn't work, get some soapy steel wool theres usually some stashed under the kitchen sink :

i used silvo and some wet and dry sand paper...but never had that prob

would i be able to gerny my whole engine bay? what should i look out for yada yada?

or just a crapload of degreaser and a hose?

what can/cant i hose?

basically you can hose everything, except the intake of course, lol. the best thing to do is degrease it, then rinse it, then start it and let it idle for a few mins, then before you drive it anywhere, rev it a few times stopped to see if there is a mis fire anywhere from coilpacks/leads getting wet, if not then take it for a drive to dry everything off...thats the easiest way i find to do it

Well be carefull when degreasing the engine and engine bay.
Best way i find is to cover the coilpack,alternator, battery terminals and fuse box with plastic bags to try and stop pressurised water from entering.

Best i can suggest and be carefull around the plugs

I usually just open the bonnet and hit with high pressure, but stand a fair bit back, maybe 2 meters. Then I just pray that it starts.

we get told at work to get the car warm and do it while it is running to so the water dries out quicker. and if u have alarm cover that they dont like water lol.

If it's only that small area you want to clean spray with carby clean or brake clean then wipe with a rag.

Never ever had an issue. Only issue I've ever had with hitting the engine bay with the pressure washer was alarms cracking the sads.

You don't want to use a degreaser on a hot surface as you can fry it & make a horrible mess some people like to have the car running while they hose it off tho also use a decent non-caustic one not a cheapo $2 special.

When you're done don't just put the car straight back in the garage as that's a great way to create rust. Try to get rid of as much excess water as you can with an old chamois or towel that you wont use on the paint again & then leave the bonnet open to dry everything out for awhile in the sun. Before you put it away give the car a quick drive to try & shift any last water trapped in there, the heat should dry it out too.

Especially with high pressure with low preasure it isnt so bad but once you cover those parts shouldnt be a problem

Steam Cleaners do a really good job , we sell them at work and i have to say that the $40 i paid for it , is a Bargain , it removes everything without scrubbing and then you wipe it off with a rag ,

Oil , Brake Dust Caked on Alloys , Grease , removes and melts everything !

One thing I have learned - don't hit it with WD40 afterwards - it burns off slowly for a very long time (weeks) and that's just not a good look.

Dont heat it up then hit it with degreaser, our detailer at work did that once and set fire to the engine bay! Keep it cool, degrease, pressure wash, take for a run to dry out!
