Default Are LTD's AU's or DU's?

Just wondering about the LTD.
I have a series 2 LTD and have read of people calling them DU's and the fairlanes as NU's.
Mine has the compliance plate id as AU11 LTD.
I hope this is right as otherwise I have been duped!!!!!

AU is sedans from Forte to Fairmont Ghia, all utes and wagons.
NU is Fairlane & Ghia
DU is LTD.
Peopel just refer to the Fairlanes and LTDs as AUs because most people know what that means. If you said to someone "I have a DU LTD", most people wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about (which could be good at resale time, as it may possibly not be associated with the success that was the AU).

it was never officially called NU or DU...

ford tried to ween the LWB's away from having the different model designation, but it "caught on" to call them NU and DU...

AU Fairlanes and LTD's are just AU, just as BA Fairlanes and LTD's are just BA...

Thanks for the info.
I wondered where the DU term had come from, so mine is definitely an AU LTD.
Was worried I might have had to ditch my numberplates ( AULTD )

the N and D terms are just follow through from the eseries LWB's...NA/DA, NC/DC, NF/DF NL/DL

so you can see why people would think to just continue it to NU and DU

Yep, well I was one of those people. Easy and honest mistake to make.

That would make the BA an NA/DA
Wow that's an expensive NA!

Well the Ford parts database system has the Fairlane listed as NU, so i dont know. NU does have some cred as an official name.

Just like AU spare parts are listed as the ER
i suspect ER was what ford was going to call the AU
