Far NW very beautiful and quiet (even though whole place is quiet really outside festivals etc. Bay of Fires on East with the rocks you mention is spectacular - walked over and through many times.

Loved Tassie and seriously considered moving there before the kids got to high school. Settled on Gt Ocean Road area in the land of the Cats. In some ways it looks/feels like Tassie a bit - the Otways have a similar view along the coast, and similar plants in the rainforest bits. Did a lot of Tassie for work, pretty much the whole state & islands offshore, off the beaten path as well as all the towns and countryside. Great place.

I wouldn't say it's a scam, but it has the potential to get a lot worse than it currently is if we just let it run freely throughout society.

Australia is doing pretty well overall, the media is over hyping it here. Seeing other types of deaths give you a bit of a comparison and shows it's not the worst thing in the world right now.

For a bit of perspective as a whole there have been 29,956,798 deaths so far in 2020.

I reckon it's going to slow down, VIC is only having a problem in the ethnic ghettos and given they're averaging 25,000 tests a day in Melbourne were going to turn up lots of cases.

Could be that our low socioeconomic groups work in industries not sympathetic to COVID-19, I know I work in one, there's pressure from employers disincentivising testing.

If they're casuals then there's another huge barrier, you'll lose a few days income and also not have protections from losing employment if your employer takes a dim view on you getting tested and decides to cut your shifts.

I reckon next Friday we'll have under 50 new cases in VIC

Looking at history the Spanish Flu pandemic ran from 1918-1919 when it ended, I'm expecting a similar timeline for COVID-19.

By the end of 2021 it'll be back to business as usual, international flights and tourism, no restrictions what so ever, the media will be focusing on President Trump's next Twitter controversy and everyone would have forgotten about COVID-19.

I can't see anyway to control this other then locking everything down and you can't do that for very long.
So either there's a vaccine that's going to fix this or in the end everyone will get it, just like every other virus that spreads like this one

It does prove its better to be lucky than smart - we are lucky here in Australia but it's looking like our luck is going to run out as restrictions are lifted which was inevitable anyway. It is clear that the Australian government is expecting to eradicate this because we seem to get surprised when 100 people are newly infected - and you could probably times that by a factor of 10 probably more

Yes people die every day from other things but what does that prove ? - this virus seems to have a high death rated compared to some others doesn't it ?

Makes me think they're worried about something else like mutations or never finding an effective vaccine / cure.

It's easy to become complacent because it's not in your face, people just disappear behind closed doors. Imagine if there were people walking around the streets covered in leaking boils and flesh sloughing off in big chunks.

Franco with the Spanish Flu they only had slow steam ship travel, drag up some flight planner sites and check out the air travel going on now and what has been going on this whole pandemic. Nz had to lock down entire country with most of population abiding by the rules. Personally i think we have painted our selves into a corner, its good to be Covid free but not sure where we go from here, at least our old people are safe they were pretty much the only ones getting nailed by this here.

I think you are living in dreamland if you don't think it can harm Tassie it only takes one stupid person returning to the island to spread.
At the rate I've seen the exodus of Tassie caravannerrs coming out of Melbourne, we will see what happens when they need to return.

107 new cases for Australia (mostly in Victoria) and no deaths so CMR drops to 1.244% and active cases rise to 903 (10.8%).

No new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.438% and active cases remain at 18.

The UK recorded 624 new cases and 67 deaths yesterday so the CMR drops to 15.514%.

Just under 55k new cases in the USA yesterday and 579 deaths sees CMR down to 4.569% and active cases down to 52.7% but the raw numbers are rising. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Oceania passes 10k cases;

Kenya (389), Algeria (430), Palestine (501), Dominican Republic (1,036), Israel (1,115), Kazakhstan (1,644), South Africa (10,853) and India (24,015) recorded new daily highs, those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.
