Yes that and Holden discount alot lot more with performance models. HSV will always have their diehards who want the best V8's IMHO but with the lower models they can be 10 grand or more off sometimes

True, however add lower weight, better chassis balance resulting in improved steering, handling, braking and lower avg fuel economy and the better package, barring engine note, is the 6T's. The next gen V8's have to remedy this imbalance. I love my G6ET, however if the next gen Ford V8 could offer the same dynamics and come close in economy I'd buy the V8 because I'd have it all and the soundtrack to boot..

Its not that much quicker. Do you really think people buy the XR6T to have a minimal speed difference over the XR8?
Do you really think that people buying an XR8 consider fuel a problem? NO
I know if i were in the market i couldnt give a flying you know what if the Turbo was 1 second or 5 seconds faster, id still buy the V8

Excellent news, as i have said before the XR8 (And whole XR Series) is to Gen Y what the GT was/is to the BB and people remembering the good times of the 70's in the dark age of motoring that was.. The 80's.

Sanity prevails. The XR8 lives. More importantly, and in context to what's happening next year with the arrival of a new powerplant, it means Ford will give this new V-8 the opportunity to win back some muchly needed "V8 cred" for the Ford V8 line up.

It is too good a motor to not have it available....

I wanted a 6T, I have a 6T. Next year will be V8.....or whenever Coyote finds its way into an XR8/GS/GT......

Well the XR8 would have to be in testing, so why not give it a go and see if it can pull a few numbers from Holden.....mind you if the put it in the G8E it would sell. The Calais has proven this.

As noted by others the tone of that article (and its always the subtext that shows it) is a bit negative to Ford. Implying that the V8 will only survive for a very short term and that it is almost doomed to die eventually. Its not a bad article one just wonders why Holden rarely comes under the same scrutiny in its endeavours. Given the larger and less advanced nature of their engines and the utter (unreported) failure of AFM you would think from a environmental and regulatory standpoint it would be their much older tech V8 that would have more problems.

For me, it is the success ford has had with the I6T (or even I6 generally) combined with new tech like LI LPG and I4T which means the V8 has more difficulty getting sales. As such, it sells in lower numbers (and %) then Holden's offering.... The 'offered in more models' is not the reason Holden has such V8 success....Ford had an optional V8 and it didn't sell. Its because holden doesn't have any performance engine at all other than the V8. The I6T is much more appealing due to its 'high tech' image, lower real world operating costs and to a degree, the perceptoin by the general public that V8s are gas guzzlers. If you are going for a luxury car then these things matter, and if you are after total performance the XR6T is very tempting. XR8 buyers are pretty much Ford V8 fans who can't or won't stump for an FPV. Pretty small subset of a niche group.

If you take those numbers quoted that is 1000 V8 units ford sells each year. Yes percentage wise that is not great, but FPV only sell 1500 V8 cars, it just shows that FPV need Ford to keep pushing the V8 out the door to amortise the costs of their own engine development and production line.

If ford dropped the V8 entirely tomorrow, some sales woudl go to FPV for sure (particulary if the GS was around) but i reckon due to pricing (particulary the Ute buyers) alot of buyers would either go second hand FPV V8 or XR6T. Certainly you woudl lose at least half the Ford V8 sales or a 20-25% reduction in V8 units.

This fact, as much as 'market perception' about Ford dropping the V8 (been there done that), is why Ford/FPV will go ahead with coyote as a joint project. After all, if you put a XR8 spec engine in a falcon ute then you might as well offer it in a XR8 sedan (or G8E etc.)

Take a read of the attached article, then tell me large capacity engines have a future in our car line-up. Ford should endure some sort term pain for some long term gain imo, and drop the V8 engine in favour of a more high tech, lower capacity engine (think ecoboost). I seriously doubt the longevity of a GM's large capacity engines once these CO2 targets come into play come 2013.

If morons like Joshua Dowling among other journos didn't contantly pan the XR8 for being slower than the I6T, it might have sold a little better.

I still remember reading the holy grail of stupidity where the XR8, XR6T and SS were tested in Drive(?) recently - the XR8 was criticised for being too slow and something along the lines of "not going as good as it sounds". The SS was praised for its V8 performance. I read this, then look down the page to see that the XR8 recorded a superior acceleration time than the SS. Absolute joke.

The media has given the XR8 such a bad name, it really is undeserved.
