man there was one epsiode with a civic where they actully did some work under the bonnet. they didnt say anything but they showed it for like 2secs. My gess is they dont go into the engine side because little 16 to 18 yr olds who dont no anything about cars watch it and are only into looks anyways.

I was talking to my friends about this subject and they said "I dont care whats under the hood, just how it looks at the end" and i am gessing they arnt the only viewers that have this view.

Good to see these idiots unmolestering real classics for once.

Pimp my ride is a joke. I would have thought I was watching the animal planet, and that white guy who acts black is truly pathetic.

Pimp my Ride is what Nova stole or bought the idea for when they Pimped the Chrysler for the radio station, if you watch the start it has a purple car with a white roof which looks similar to the Nova's Pimped Car - they said the public choose what they put on the car - I THINK NOT - looks the same , what a rip off?!?!?!

Series 1 is available in Australia at Sanity Stores for around $27.00, its at other places JBHIFI, Kmart etc its a 3 disk set - its a bargain and a good laugh.

To actually see what West Coast Customs can do and other awesome Car Shops in the USA get the cd sets Rides and Rides 2, you will be amazed at what money can buy.

Rides and Rides 2 is for the those who want to see how to modify a car the right way and also the engines - the sets have 5 disks and each set is around $60.00.

Pimp my Ride is the cheap version - try and pick the crap out of Rides and Rides 2 - BET YOU CANT ?!?!?!? I DARE YOU !!!!!!!!

That would have to be the best $40 you could ever spend. This show is probable one of the best car shows ever put on TV. Hopefully one day it will be on free to air TV.

Cheers, Danny

I didn't realy like what they did with the cars as far as paint wheels and interiors.

But it was interesting to see how they could put a pool table in the back of a ute or a hot tub in the back of the van.

Completely impratical as these mods were it was very funny to hear and then to see these ideas being done.

But you dont actually see them being done. You see the round table suggestions. Then you see a brief look at the work. Then the end. You dont see bugger all actual work being done.

lol. we would have to picket line them at the location to stop such an atrocity.

And someone has to actually nominate their phase three for the "work". Theyd be committed.

I vote "Poida" as the host for the aussie version ;) "You've officially been pimped!" (cracks open a VB)

I like the fact that they try something out of the norm for each car. It would get quite boring if all they did to every car was give it a nice paint job, and chucked in a big block v8 for example. The last episode i saw of pimp my ride on MTV, they actually did ditch the old motor (i think it was some old crysler) and put in a shiny new jaguar motor.

Hows about saving a classic. Find an old Charger or Caddi sitting in a barn for a few decades and do it up to ORIGINAL status.

The pommy version of Pimp My Ride has some 40 yo "homie". It's real cheesy and sad.
The dodgiest effort I've seen on Pimp My Ride was a 66 Mustang where they cut the badly rusted floor out and "pop" riveted in the new one!!!
Rides on Discovery is pretty good, but there's another show on before it at 7.30 on Tuesday nights called "American Hot Rod". It's done at Boyd Conningtons workshop where they took a 56 Chev out of a recyclers and they are going through the process of a full show rebuild for a paying customer. The last two episodes were dedicated to fitting and repair of the old tin work and fitting up of the engine and the new chassis. It's warts and all type of show done in the same way as "American Chopper". Quite good.

The show is mildly amusing, but Rides is better. Better again is Overhaulin and I suggest anyone and everyone get schooled and track this down on DVD.

Each episode is headed by Chip Foose, and they bring in a different team of BIG GUNS of customization (engine, paint, interior, chassis, etc) each time. These guys are the top of their tree and it shows. They have a week to totally overhaul each car, and they all get complete bare-metal respray, in some cases a new chassis, totally new interior (car is completely stripped out each episode), brand new engine, body customizations (eg. converting 4-door hardtop to 2-door softtop!), it is just bloody amazing what they can get done in a week.

This is the official website of the show. Check the link to the galleries, it will blow you away once you realise ALL the cars were completed in a timeframe of 1 week.

The dodgiest make over was the van. The guy was in a band and obviously used the van to haul around the bands instruments, yet they totally took all the cargo space away and the van would be totally useless for them. It was pretty cool inside though, although the spa was going over the top.

I have watched pimp my ride a million times and the way they actually transform these cars are amazing. These guys aren't just "Homies" west coast custom are very popular over there in the states. The cars they do "Pimp" are cars that teenagers drive around in and can't afford anything better etc etc So these guys come along and transform old heaps into (well most of the time) nice looking examples for free.

Its good entertainment, it's not meant for the "Hardcore" dinky dy car enthusiast.

Bossxr8. I thought exactly the same thing. There WAS heaps of room in there for the bands gear. Now there is none. The spa will be used all of once and that was when the guy tested it in the car. Was there any method of draining the water? Or how are they supposed to fill it up? Buckets maybe.

Did they ever play that UK Top Gear show on TV here?
Now that is value. They always play funny stuff on it while reviewing all the cool cars.

The show may not suit everyone but it give alot of ideas and inspiration on thing you never could thought possibly be done. Those guys come up with alot of ideas and have a lot of gut to show what scrap could be turn into a work of art. West Coast Custom are not engine or performance engine builders but they do some engine work but don't show it. It about bling bling wow factor (visual, sound and feel). I think it great and it give you alot of fresh idea to the bling bling style rather then every doing the same thing. I gonna get my copy of the first series.

Hey there already an aussie version coming out soon and if you want your ride pimp then go to www.blingmybomb.com.au.

Yeah, I saw it too whilst recently in the USA. That show is amazing, especially when they (in the case of a try hard riced up civic) steal the car, and make out that the finance company repossessed it and string the hapless victim along. I saw 6 episodes of it but the one I remember most was the Honda Civic. As they stripped it they were forced to fix all the excess bog in it, panels that didn't fit, and a body kit that didn't line up because of previous accident damage. They also had to put a whole new engine in and they didn't go completely over the top on the paint job but it was nice.

On the other hand, Pimp my Ride is actually the original (has been for four years) and XZibit is actually quite funny. The idea of pimp is to be completely over the top reminiscent of the kind of tricking up pimps did to their cars throughout the 70's and 80's.

As posted earlier the show is only light hearted entertainment and watching some of these white guys pretending to be black is absolutey hilarious. An ep I saw was when some guy with a cutlass was calling everyone "bra". XZibit made a line like; "you know ya white iite". Plus calling a girl a freak on the show whilst she's carrying on like a pork chop is pretty funny. If you do want serious car info in the same format is pimp then you should try and get the dvd's for overhaulin.
