I think it was something to do with the rules as to having to run what was from factory... XE was allowed to run an alloy manifold though to achieve better parity between the makes.

Group C cars had to run the stock iron manifold untill XE period.... I believe the Group C club has set the rules up to allow period aftermarket intakes.

Never heard of a PH3 with an alloy intake, they're just not a Boss351

Its a fiddly one actually, the alloy buddybar dual plane was used from 71 onwards on some cars "in the know" painted blue to look like it was steel, and being the same shape as the cast one it got through (mostly), from XA onwards it depended on what you got away with. The XD went to 2V heads so they used the cast iron on the XD..
The taller single plane alloy manifold was only used on the XE.

Can't argue with that statement. Hence, it gets my vote. Forty years powering Fords should mean something....... Nothing wrong with the others that have been mentioned though.

I voted Cleveland..suprise, suprise.

An example of my reasons Here:

Clevo sound

Boss 5.4

Windsor

LS1 just for comparison

All taken from this thread: http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=62152

Obviously Im a bit partial to the windsor, but a cleveland demands respect in any circumstance.

For a modern engine, BOSS sounds good but personally I like the sound of my ute over a GT etc, personal opinion really.

I wonder how much faster all those 'unopened bosses' would go if they were 'opened'
I've got a ute in the back yard with an unopened 302c, its the fastest unopened 302c in my street ;)

oh as for the poll, Cleveland for me ;)

gona have to go windsor's on this one. My old man has a clevo and i got a windsor, he likes the clevlands and i like the windsors. Its just personal taste really. Imagine a boss, windsor and clevland engine combined!!!!!! it would be a BLEVSOR or a WINDOSSLAND :

"yeah I guess my 11.7 unopened boss proves that they are no good in passenger cars"....good on ya 11.7 sec car....how does it go around corners with 7 tonne of engine sitting over the front wheels....I never said that the engine didnt make reasonable horsepower...they are just way to heavy for the our sort of cars....they where made for an F-150 TRUCK not a BA-BF FALCON in Australia....and are a band-aid engine for ford here....lets see how long they stick around...not as long as the WINDSOR or for that matter the CLEVO...let me point out that I'm not knocking the engine at all...I'm knocking Ford Australia's intention for it. That's all!!!

[QUOTE=CATFORD....good on ya 11.7 sec car....how does it go around corners with 7 tonne of engine sitting over the front wheels....!!![/QUOTE]
I thought we were talking about engines here????

but since your asking, My car handles corners extremely well at all legal speeds, and I was impressed with it on my complementry track day supplied by FPV. I'm pretty sure it would handle as well if not better than any of it's falcon predocessors. I admit a 6 cyl turbo may be a better track handling car because of it's less weight over the front wheels, but it's not on the option list of the poll here, but again we got off topic.

I'm sure RaceGT or Jabba or any others that use their Boss falcons on the track are happy with their choice of cars and engines

Come on kids. Why the hell would you want to drink milk when you can have scotch. Clevo for me and you can stick the rest. I have never heard anything that sound's better than a 4V clevo at full noise.

I picked windsor, but only in 351 form! ive got both a 351c and a 351w and theres not much between them. both great little engines. they're cheap, easy to get power out of and sound awesome! all you could want for a tough streeter.

PS
waiting for a fist fight 'my boss is more unopened than yours'.

Go the clevo...There aint nothin' more angry sounding than a Clevo at full noise! Boss 260/290's are good for the modern stuff..Windsors are a good stop gap till you get a real engine! :
