Agreed. And realistically we deal with this reality every day, and I must say we (AUS), are more 'this way' than the US per capita.

We are engineered in this country down to the lowest common denominator, another example which will hit most jurisdictions in debate soon is a new push by WA's Road Safety mob to bring in a NEW built-up area DEFAULT speed limit to replace the existing legislated Australian Road Rules (which are Regulations in each State & Territory) stated 50km/h.

The new proposal, as we discuss at the aus.cars newsgroup, is 30km/h! Yes seriously, this is a genuine proposal. The reduced built-up area default will have academic support, with usual 'speed and square' argument from the usual suspects.

I am most certain NSW will resist the move, even if 40km/h was to eventuate as the alternative.

30km/h as a default? get stuffed, I do more than that on my push bike. I'd like to see the cops pull over us cycle commuters every morning.

Yay, go for 30kph. As soon as I see a revenue camera set up nearby I'll go home, grab the pushbike, and do as many passes of that ***** as I can over 30kph. I wonder how many passes it will take to **** the off and make them move. Of course, if they do move I'll just follow them as they will only be travelling at 30kph anyhow hahahahahahaha.

REVENUE ... thats all it is folks. Obviously they cant catch enough money at the moment so they just drop the limits again and go for more revenue.

The really worry thing with this is if Urban Speed limits were set at 30Kph correspondlingly V8 supercar pit lane speed would now become 10Kph using the pre-existing logic

How did this turn in to a speed limit thread?

I'm with Psycho - the cabbie clearly watches too much Dukes of Hazzard!

Perfect example of why I always carry a camera

I agree with the above suggestions.. more speed, and launch it.. if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!

Also if it had a towbar it would have been fine, would have just scraped along the bar that goes under the tank and kept going like nothing happened.
