They need someone famous enough to have profile, rich enough to not have to pander to anyone (car company/RACV/special interest group) or apologise every 2 seconds when they annoy the hippies and fascists, and someone knowledgable enough to actually be able to drive the things.

My Dream Team - Any three of these guys will do
Eric Bana (3 Votes) Knows his , rich, smart and into cars
Sam Kekovich (3 Votes) If he can rant on lamb hating lesbians, imagine what he'd do to a commodore
Sam Newman (2 Votes) rich, obnoxious, has good cars, doesnt talk rubbish.
Gary Myers (2 Votes) ah burnouts.
One of the drags guys, preferably someone who isnt a bray or stevens cos they are massive self promoting tools.
That guy who hosts "rodder's life" on C31 (1000 points just on bogan value)
Habib from Fat Pizza (its sbs, do need legally at least 33% ethnic content)
Or me, cos i'd do anything to be involved in this program if it was done right.

Some ideas for stories
Trans Nullibour Challenge (XA/HQ/Valiant) make them go accross the country.
Princess Highway Bogan Shame (take stock/understated cars to noble park on friday night and completely shame the ricers)
How to destroy a VN (like the How to destroy a porche)
Do a Proper Big 6 Test, Take an aussie big 6, an asian one and a european one and drive them from sydney to wiepa or somewhere else extreme.
1500 Dollar RaceCar Challenge (drag, circuit, hillclimb) and all the driving to and from.

Heres hoping Eric Bana ends up as one of the hosts, that would be outstanding.

Does Australia have an equivalent Vicky Butler-Henderson? Leanne Tander or Melinda Price maybe..?

Great news!

I hope they get the hosts right. Really, thats the main reason Top Gear is such a good show for ALL AUDIENCES.

if paul gover is in anyway involved i will declare a jihad on that show.

my bet is that alot of the ppl from either wheels or Motor will be involved and they will become almost sister projects. That way they can do the mag and tv tests at the same time and get 2 stories for the price of one. THe mags are already established, so it would reduces costs, they already have the contacts yadda yadda and they have column writers who are opinionated and knowledgeable enough. Thats the logical thing to do.

however, that said, it will no doubt be rubbish. have you read the so called "rants" of those absolute stains of ppl that cockurn, morley and whatever their names are from motor? giving them any form of validation in the form of a tv show would just destroy the concept because these guys have very very little idea. However they will not be able to get presenters from a range of mags (SM, wheels, motor) because that would wreck the cross promotion. Imagine a tv equivilent to motor or wheels??? we all want to burn them at the stake now for what they write, imagine seeing it come out of their mouths?? domestic violence incidents would spike after every airing.

The show will be made in sydney, be totally metro-centric, and instead of funny rants about stuff that shouldnt be said on tv but is, they will be watered down emo kid-esque whinges about nothing. It will cross promote with whatever corporate sponsor it can find.

ie, wow, what a great test of the new falcon. if you are looking to insure, call shannons....

I just love how they have already committed to the UK version for the life of the series. Atleast we're not like Discovery Channel in America who have stopped showing it over there for their own rubbish. Australia's version will be crap in comparison to the UK version, but hey, it's more Top Gear.
Love Clarkson's comment too, wish he'd come down here with captain slow and hampster to kick off the Australian version.

Yeah it would never happen. But he is the most logical choice as a Richard Hammond replacement

Should be ok as long as they keep Glen Ridge & David Morley Away from it and dont turn it into a 1 hour infomercial ala the Car Show.

Vote 1 for John Bowe as host

Sounds good. I reckon for a permanent host, they should have either Lowndes or Skaife. Both would be good too I suppose. Just curious as to how nuts they could go with car choice though.

We need someone who is as lively and as funny as the BBC crew. Has to be as good. Would be nice now to see Aussie models tested rather than the Vauxhall Monaro.

David Koch!

Nah. Would never happen cause he's owned by another media group... as is Grant Denyer. Eric Banner won't do it cause he gets too much making movies now...

Some old Full Frontal (Fast Forward) guys would be funny.... maybe a V8 race driver or too...

Mark Webber lives in England so he won't be doing the Aussie stig....

Maybe get a Minister for Transport in there... why not? lol...

Kim Jones and his mate out the back!

I'm a bit wary of Aussie Top Gear to tell you the truth. I love UK Top Gear, and reckon that the hosts work together perfectly. This is what the Aussie Top Gear will need. Quite often, making a copy of a show in a different country is just not the same. Look at Pimp My Ride for example. I reckon it's a great show in the US, but the less said about Pimp My Ride UK, the better

Maybe some of the Motor/Wheels guys?, If any of them can talk aswell as they can write. Atleast they have that 'rev-head' sense of humor. That will be the biggest problem, Not finding someone who can drive the out of the cars, or finding someone funny, its finding someone who can have that rev-head, all-about-petrol-and-smoke, sense of humor while not sounding like a complete toss. Thats what clarkson has down pat.

Ok Ill go back and hide in my dark, holden corner now. B-)
