And whats with people claiming tall poppy syndrome? Do you really think Polic have nothing better to do than follow a tennis player? Please...you cant let people in the spotlight get away with stuff and claim "tall poppy" when they get treated like everyone else.

I actually think its a bit arrogant of BMW and Tomic to clearly push the boundaries...just give him a NA 6 3 series coupe..its hardly a crap box.

Wow that flew right over your head didn't it?

It is a double standard because he doesn't need that particular car to get too and from tennis related events. A 6cyl would get him there in one piece just as much as a V8.

I'm not condoning what he did. Obviously he had rules bound to his exemption as a P plater, he broke those laws and so he deserves the fine. If he's done the wrong thing, then he deserves it.

He's saying he was bullied though (maybe he was, maybe he wasn't), and also said one of the Police Officers wanted to hit him. As someone who's been on the end of that attitude by a Police Officer, I know how he feels. Sometimes simply the car you drive is the crime.

Yeah, and a pair of roller skates would get you to and from work, too. I wouldn't be so credulous to the situation.

I think the fact that this has made the news at least twice is probably indicative of him driving like a knob regardless of the fact that the police would pull over ANY M3 and therefore any flashy car with P plates on it. They don't know who is driving until they pull you over derrr!

This bloke sounds like he is trying to get off by playing a harassment card.

anyone could apply for an exception, who have a probationary license..of course...

does the permit allow him to drive to training, or not?

even the police seem to be jelly, bernard tomic can't help but get a bigger salary than the people that are against him, he can't help but be wealthy

Agreed.
How many would be upset to be in his position?
-Nice albeit orange M3.
-Hawt missus.
-Making a living from playing sport.

Living the dream and good on him id love to be in his situation. As would many.

So much jealousy here, and by the looks all model citizens on the road to

Yes, but just because its legal, doesn't mean its not stupid.

Another thing is he wasn't driving it to tennis practise, the two times he's been done by police he keeps crying harassment.

Anyone here with HSVs/FPVs chuck on P plates for a day on your car and see how long you can go before getting pulled over.

Years of sacrifice? Sacrifice of what? He's like 19, years of sacrifice of not playing with Pokemon cards or video games? Life has barely just started for people our age.

I currently hold the same exemption as Tomic, but in NSW (I'm able to drive a 315 Boss Super Pursuit for work purposes) and i've been doing so since i got my red Ps (almost three years). I live in Sydney and have had to use the ute at varied hours and never have i had any form of harassment from the Highway Patrol in Sydney, whether it be in Bankstown, Parramatta or Brighton. I've been stopped twice to check the exemption but nothing further.

As one of the kinder highway patrols told me, "if you're not driving stupidly we can't do anything with you, we only enforce the road rules"

He's been pulled over more times in the last month than i've been pulled over in three years most likely indicating stupidity on Tomic's part.

He is actually, because exemptions are only for work purposes, for him which would be going to and from tennis training, not taking the girlfriend for a spin near some restaurants.

Best post in the thread...

How many more times is he going to whinge and cry harrassment because he was caught out breaking the special exemption he has been granted, and run to his lawyer like a spoiled brat.

BMW makes plenty of P-plate suitable vehicles...some rather sporty ones as well...he doesn't have to drive a V8 M3...get the little ***** out of it, get him into something normal, and let him know in no uncertain terms that he's just some guy who plays a damn game for a living, not a national treasure...

The exemption allows him to drive from his home to his place of work, in the most direct route possible (cant find the article that mentions this).
Driving around revving your engine with your mate in the car isnt driving to practice. If he wasnt breaking the law, he wouldnt have got a fine. He got a fine, so he was breaking the law. Cant see how anyone can keep defending that.
How different is it to some of you then an 18yo with an exemption to drive the family Monaro to work, but being fined for driving it with mates in it, doing laps around Latrobe Maccas. If this was the case, you would be all saying to throw the book at him.

Just goes to show some people really have no idea!

Do you think you get to become an elite level world class sportsman drinking beers and not doing the hard yards training/diet wise?

It involves sacrifice.

If you dont put in, you dont reap the benefits

Anyway - he in the orange M3. You are not. Deal with it.

How did you go about getting the exemption?
Is it your car or your bosses?
I'm not being smart but I can not for the life of me see any reason for an exemption other than the vehicle is a workshop runabout or similar, and even then it's a stretch.
In Tomic's case what possible reason could he have given to justify the excemption? Financial hardship? Only vehicle available? It doesn't seem right to me

He's. Restricted. To. Driving. To. Practice. Full stop. He seems to be just driving the damn thing around everywhere as he likes, gets told to drive straight home, and doesn't, and acts surprised when he get fined...

Drive a bright Orange M3 ...... of course you would stand out like dogs if you are not sticking to the rules of the exemption.

In High School we read Animal Farm by George Orwell

One of the principles in the book holds true

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others"

Life isn't entirely fair sometimes.

At the end of the day, Bernard Tomic has something to offer BMW Australia which no one here on AFF can.

It is business. Nothing personal.
