I’m agreeing with you.

Why manufacturers ever felt the need to try and out do the Speco shifter used to convert the three on the tree to a three on the floor is beyond me.

I had one of them on the only holden Iv ever had. EK sedan with a warmed over 186, jag rear-end, & HR front end. Went Ok for 17yr old. Bought cheap & flogged it badly. How I lived through that time I will never understand.

Inside looks great but I hate the outside. I Wass a big fan of the previous shape. S550 mustang blows it out of the water for looks

If you like the Mustang you would have to like this Camaro. There are some styling cues that make these 2 rivals look like peas in a pod.

I like it.

Does the auto come with paddle shifters? Theyve set up the sequential shifter backwards

All the literature thus far says that it will come with paddle shifters.

Its runs a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 cranking out an estimated 640 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. Codenamed LT4, you know this engine from the Corvette Z06. That power allows the 2017 ZL1 to outgun the '15 model by 60 hp and 84 lb-ft. "This is the hammer in the Camaro lineup for Gen Six," Reuss said. It will go on sale late this year.

All of that power will be hooked to GM's first use of its long-awaited 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, which is tuned for the prodigious output of the ZL1. More significantly, the gearbox will be in eight vehicles by the end of 2018. Enthusiasts, rest assured: the ZL1 will also offer a standard six-speed manual transmission with rev matching.

G'day all...Nice but it's got a GM badge...Instant taboo I'm afraid...I'd need an exorcism after that...Mustang is growing on me though in the dim distant future.....maybe.....I bought a VC Commodore once when encouraged by my dad...POS if ever was the case..I was 20 and stupid..The engine died at 118,000 kms broke a piston skirt apparently...got a Repco full engine , ran like ****..The carby collapsed , the transmission mounting collapsed and the whole thing was floating up and down , the economy gauge stopped , the heater was like a 747 , the drivers door couldn't unlock and one day i was washing it , I noticed a mass of tiny paint bubbles in the top of the passenger side front mudguard..Traded it quick..poor bugger who ever bought it on an 84 XE GL...Now that was a nice car..Not fair to compare it to this but it scarred me for life...Just the same I'll be sad to see GMH finish in 2017..The Commies after the awful VN aren't too bad..Cheers Rod..

It's not a bad looking car by any means. Although it retains a very busy design all around from front to the end, some of which are not streamlined with the rest of the design cues of the car. I would hazard a guess and say this will age very quickly in the few years to come.

Having said that, the new Camaro does have a very aggressive stance and look to it, which is a far cry from Mustang's softer yet classy and elegant design architecture. Both are nothing alike.

As for the 10 speed auto, it is all relative. We can't know for certain what benefits this new auto with added gears brings to this as of yet, until we read reviews upon it and see what the verdict is.

I see why ten gears could benefit fuel economy but I doubt it has much real-world use when it comes to performance.

It would have to "skip" gears when raced, wouldn't it? For example, to get the best possible quarter-mile time or best 0-100 km/h time.

I don't think it would skip gears under WOT, but this looks to be the main GM/Ford RWD auto going forward so it's biggest seller will be behind F150's and Silverado's towing several tonnes.

Now anything less than 6 speed and in some cases 7 speed people will not even look at them.

Why is 10 speed even necessary? It's called progress.
Well I guess I should cancel my order for the 2017 Bugatti Chiron then... still uses the ol' 7-speeder from 2005 and only good for an electronically limited 420kph... this Chevy has 10-speeds so should be way faster !

Sometimes progress means you end up going backwards... a 640hp supercharged V8 does not need 10 forward speeds to be faster than a 6 or 7 speed box... if anything, it may actually end up being slower due to the extra gear changes required.

I actually agree with you on this one, well for this car in particular.
640HP with 640NM does not need 10 gears in fact they would be a pita.
if its smooth enough it would probably sound and feel similar to a CVT

lots of gears are good for diesels with small power bands - and obviously for economy.
but if you buying a ZL1 I don't think economy is the main priority.

That interior is magic. The yanks have finally discovered how to make good looking interiors. Yank interiors have been their low point for the last 30 years.

Most other makes have the push forward for up and pull back for down a gear, except falcon/commodore, doesnt go with the natural flow of driving but makes logical sense (forward gear push forward, back gear pull back)
