They should keep the bulge - it makes the car look very aggressive.

I was driving to work this morning in my XR6T - a FG GT came up close behind me - the bright green paint, panda eyes, big bulge, was all too much for me in the rear view - I pulled over and curled up into the foetal position whilst he went past...

There are heaps of us holden guys with xr8 bulges on our commies. Mainly the later vt's and onwards though. Its a compliment if anything else to ford with the design of it.

Sorry mate - sure it's his option and his car, but in my view it doesn't look the goods - never agreed with swapping Ford, Holden parts for that unique out there individual look - must be my old school thoughts kicking in.

Getting a bit off kilter, hot rod's are a different kettle of fish entirely - I'm discussing a bonnet bulge on a commy - still doesn't look right in my view :togo:

I am sorry here fellas but putting that bulge on a car that does not require it for clearance is akin to compensating by sticking a pair of balled socks down the front of your trousers to compensate - please for the sake of your masculinity stop it

there - I said it :

that vz bonnet bulge looks taller than the BA one to me, i don't think it's the same, it's also raised right at the back

what about bonnet scoops. 90% on cars are pointless. i think there needs to be a poll

No its not, its a styling feature from way back, just like any swage line, crease or what ever little details are on a panel.

I suppose all panels should be dead flat.

all cars I am aware of that have a bonnet bulge had it fitted to create engine clearance - the Cortina for example I mentioned it had nothing to do with aesthetics it was put there because without it and a 250 xflow fitted the bonnet would not shut.

that bonnet on any car that does not require it makes you look like a ricer.

I hate this "RICER" term, thats almost like saying new rims are a ricer adding effect or a GT bodykit on an XR8, Or putting BA XR8 badges on an AU XR8, or putting EF tail lights on an EL. I've seen AU XR8s and BA XR6Ts with bonnet bulges and they look awesome.

Isn't the REAL ricer term supposed to be used for JAP imports specifically because they are Asian cars?

I reckon keep the bulge, it puts the cars stance apart from the other models and what a great stance it is!

Spot on, its just a bottom of the barrel, unintelligent word to describe something. 'Rice' comes from 'rice rocket', a name given to anything the was from Japan.

If people want want to use rice as a backronym, then stripes on GT's are rice, the sill covers are rice, the rear bar spoiler-all rice, even the XW-XY GT chin spoiler had little effect other then helping air to the radiator, so that's half rice.

Even further, the bulge would then be rice because Ford could have just had a bonnet that gave adequate clearance without a bulge.

Then there are bubble roofs, i, suppose that's rice as well. Oh, wait that intake is over 50mm X 100mm its to big for the car, so its rice.

The Bulge is a styling item, it has the parallel adjective of covering a bigger engine, but like any other panel on a car it has a purpose of looking good, as well as providng other functions.

Imagine if the desingers of 50's cars took the current attitude, all the wild fins (OMG RICE!), beautiful lines and massive chrome bars wouldn't be there.
