I reckon it's a great show in the US, but the less said about Pimp My Ride UK, the better

thats true mate, Pimp My Ride UK is pathetic, so is the International one they do in Europe with Little John, they have (or had, it was better at WCC) the perfect formula, thats exactly what Top Gear AU will need.

But I can just see it turning into a cheap v8 bogan series with lame jokes like the rest of them. don't get me wrong I hope they pull it off but the three on top gear are just perfect chemistry.

Just one question I have to pose, do we really generate enough local motoring news to make a show every week?

The only aussie cars that would make an entertaining show would be FPVs/HSVs and possibly some of the 4 banger imports that don't really get much focus on the UK original.

I can just imagine, "This week we'll check out the new Falcon Cobra. Hey a new paint job and 12 more kW.... And on that bombshell I'm afraid that's all we have tonight. Tune in next week to see an exclusive on the next model Commodore, complete with a different cloth trim and cruise control standard. See you then, Goodnight!"

This is gonna be awesome. Will it be the first time an Aussie ford has been reviewed on top gear?

Great idea. Morley needs to be a part of this show. The little runt is a witty bugger.

if they review old cars aswell, and the other cool, non-new car stuff, they should be able to find the content.

The choice would have been so easy if PB was still here :(

My candidate pool:

Peter Berner;
Cromley or Sam Newman;
Dave Hughes or Peter Hellier or Trevor Marmalade;

I wouldn’t even bother turning the TV on for an Australian version. What an insult to the Top Gear crew to have some half arsed attempt at securing ratings by SBS at the expense of this brilliant show. Like others here have said, who will they use? I can’t think of anyone in this country that has the character and screen presence of Jeremy Clarkson. How many Enzos, Zondas, F 40s or Bugatti Veyrons will you expect to see Glen Ridge driving around considering that they can’t even be registered in this nanny country?

Even if they did secure some of these cars to test, they would probably be sent to Austria by mistake, as few exotic car manufactures really give a damn about the ****ant market in this country.

Leave Top Gear as it is.

this will either be good or hoorible , they need few things to make it good

1, Humour
2. Who will be the stig
3. The content
4. The presenters

if they get them 4 right it will be good if they don't it die in the water

Exactly. I have little to no interest in most of the European cars they roadtest. I cringe whenever they roadtest and habitually bag one of my beloved American cars. But I still faithfully tune in to watch them whenever they are on. In it's original guise the show is pure entertainment, and I'm pretty sure any local re-creation will not do it justice.

All the international wannabes should just hand over the $$$ they want to spend on a local copy to the BBC and let them make more episodes with JC etc ... and stop the bloody re-runs!!

Falcon-Commodore-380-Camry Brisbane to Sydney would be a good road test, Or maybe they could race the 200series crusier against an outback train

Think I'd rather re-runs than an Australian version to be honest.

Why would any of you expect any high profile person to host a TV show on SBS? Grant Denyer, Glen Ridge, even Craig Lowndes? Not only are some of them contracted heavily to a certain radio station, someone like Craig Lowndes would be far too busy with his current commitments to put the time in to it.

And the content... as what Full Noise said..

Wtf. I like all those guys but they wouldnt exactly make for an entertaining car show. Adam probably drives a Prius, Wil would look at home on a scooter and Liz probably has late 90's bmw 4x4. Maybe... My picks for host would be a Dick Johnson or Sam Newman for Clarkson. Sam would be great. loves cars and doesnt talk bs. Denyer would make a great hammond but probably heavily contracted like sam might be. I can't decide who would be a good captain slow. Maybe Greg Murphy. Maybe even a no nonsense chick might be good for the show. As for the stig. Possible an undercover Jim Richards. I regard him as the best all round driver (Domestic) Australia has had *Controversy* and he hasn't lost much in the last 15 years. Possible even Jim for a main slot on the show.

Surely they will kick up a stink over such a show... Maybe they can chain themselves to a tree and be used as witches hats.
agree 100%
if they take commercials off air, what chance has a show got??

They need Joshua Dowling rofl......
I hope they have occasional appearances of the REAL Top Gear hosts, or it will bear no relation to the actual show. I wonder who the Stig will be? I guess it depends on the location of the set compared to driver locations. I hope it's better than other Australian car shows (but then being in the Sri Lankan cricket team would be better than watching another episode of The Car Show).

interesting. but im far from convinced it will be any where near as good as the original. Least SBS has it and not one of those other stooge stations.

as far as presenters go, they need to find car loving comedians. must be some around somewhere. just hope its not some current celebrity because they all suck.

Funny how most of the discussion here is on which semi-celebrities should host it. They need to select three people who are suited to the task and have personalities which compliment each other. I think the worst thing they could do would be to throw a few celebs in just because they're 'famous'
They should all be passionate about cars and actually be somewhat knowledgable.
I'd be just as happy for three unknowns to host it, as I can't for the life of me think of three celebs who would be any good.

They need people who have the balls to make real jokes and insult greenies and have the guts to stand up to political naysayers. Plus they have to be funny.

Straunie
Adam Hills
Sam Newman would be the perfect James May
Paul McDermott

You get the idea, it better not be like the Car Show, that really sucks.

With the current motoring mentality most Australian has, Top Gear Australia will not work. Period.
