Never read about engineering, never had any interest and will never succeed.

But still, that's not bad for somebody without a clue. I'll take that. Now to review my responses

I also never did physics or chemistry.

I did better at the end than the beginning. I just employed common sense.

Clearly, I have little

I did physics at college as well. Spose a few years and crap load of beer make you forget :

Got all but one of the electrics questions right. Have NFI what a planetary gear is so not suprised I didn't get one! yelrotflm

Meh I pay others to know this stuff because I could not care in the least bit :P

For heaven's sake, this isn't grade 3.

It's an electric train, it does not release smoke, unless it slams on its breaks, but there would probably be sparks.

Also take into account the source of energy. If the source if from fossil fuels, then clearly smoke will be released into the atmosphere. Throw up a windsock and see for yourself. There is no simple answer.

For heaven's sake, did you really think he was being serious?

What weighs more, a 1000kg of bricks or a tonne of feathers?

Yeah...but people do get fooled by those questions, then those people get laughed at or made a mockery of.

With the bricks/feathers question, my mother said that a ton of bricks weighs more than a ton of feathers.

I would take the ton of feathers...who needs money when you've got feathers? (Simpsons reference).

A ton of bricks doesn't go far, unless you smash your brother's face with one, in which case, it's a brick well used.

78%... I got all the gearing questions right, except the planetary gear, but i didn't know what any of the components were called.

Aced the electrical stuff, so I should have though, I've just spent 6 months doing a Pre Apprenticeship course in it... (anyone offering apprenticeships? )

I sucked on the weights and pulleys though, I just guessed at them all.

68%.......I'm actually staggered! i have never passed a physics exam in my life! However, there is a difference when you can apply knowledge- it makes more sense and is more motivating....room for improvement but I did it in the middle of a busy day in 12 mins so I am happy!

100%

As mentioned before, Q26 will see two lamps light up fully and one partially, Q31 is wrong, Q48 is being pedantic as atmospheric pressure can only enter the cylinder if a partial vacuum has been caused by the piston travelling down. Some definitions of suction are along the lines of "a force over an area produced by a pressure difference", so saying that suction is incorrect is a bit harsh.

In addition I feel Q38 should be a bit more specific as far as the orientation used for determining what is an opposite direction i.e. is it looking from the left or looking at each fan front on.

So basically its because of this, damn this will show peoples age.

So my take now is that it is very technical difference, but scientifically correct. Tests usually require the most correct answer to demonstrate the extent of knowledge, rather than one correct option among 3 pretty well wrong ones. Most good multiple choice tests will give you two choices that are close, but only one is technically correct.

Isn't that what a vaccum does, creat a low pressure in the hose side of the fan. And air rushes in...
Too scientific for this points and plugs man . It sucks I tell ya!

100% agree with you.
Q26 As I stated before
Q31 is 1/5 of 300KG = 60 (not an option), weight is centred 1 segment to the left and other is centred 5 to the right. If both were at the end of their respective sides 50KG would be correct.
Q38, I had to think about it when I did it for the same reason. Had to think about what answer they would want as you can't prove them wrong.
Q48 pedantic and I can show a few definitions which would assert this is wrong (I can also show some which say its right), so badily worded question. 2 equally right answers.

What was the answer to that? I didn't check it. I guessed A as the pressure build up from the pipe getting smaller/narrower wouldn't allow enough flow and it'd need to escape somewhere. First thought was B because the pipe was narrower and thought there'd be more pressure/speed.. But went with A... Wow i'm tired that probably didn't make sense.
