They're not Ford haters there, they're car haters. They'll defect anything they can. (note this is if you're stuck going to Dickson)

So did the coppers tick the 'Dickson only' box?

edit: and if they suspect an emissions issue (and with aftermarket cooler, exhaust, tune they will), you're sent (at your expense) to Sydney because there's no emissions tester in Canberra.

yeah it is dickson. that is such a load i might get sent to Sydney! you would think they would have one here. you would hope they give you a reasonable amount of time to go there and that can be a fair cost just to get something to sniff your exhuast. just wondering if you found this emissions info on the site somewhere? if so a link would be much appreciated

If they send you to Sydney and the car is fine is there anything you can do to get the money back?

Because its a bit of a joke that they could just pull up anyone, nit pick something random to give a defect notice, and then make you go a few hundred K's away because they don't have the correct equipment, isnt that their fault they don't have the equipment??

put it this way, im leaving the lights as is if i dont get defected on them but sent to sydney for emission tested i would be making a complaint of police harassment. with all that happened at the time and the way they treated me i think im already well within my rights to complain but think it would be a bad idea to rock the boat before cleared, but it was quiet negligent of the officers to leave me sitting less than 2m's from a T intersection in a busy restaurant area with no power to the car (not even hazards) although i did chuckle at one point as i was in direct line of sight of the dickson motor registry

do you have spare lights? for the sake of it just chuck them in and bring along the angel eye headlights and ask the inspector for his advice! you never know he might pass you. but if you have the angel eyes and you fail coz of that whislt having spare lights sitting around thats no good and a waste of your time.

this is a good point i suppos, im just sorta wanting not to pull the whole front of the car off again as last time as i have a full fibreglass front end it took a lot of time to get it all to line up again. but you do have a very good and smart point. i suppos if i do change them they will check this first (i assume) and noticing i have changed them may make me seem more reasonable and them easier to get along with

this is very true, and i suppos i can always like you said take the other lights ask a few questions and if they say they are fine as long as they are not used while driving then i can always throw em back in, does save me potentially 2 trips over the pits.

just really dont want to pull the front end off as i think it took similar time to put it on and get it right as it did to install the actual lights

haha i cant wait for this to be over either... but the ever so helpful dickson motor registry have canceled my appointment and i cant book again until next tuesday which is rather annoying. however i demanded an extension on the defect and they gave me another 21 days.

while on the phone i spoke to someone in the know to get more details regarding the lights. they are legal to use on road provided they are white and are aloud colour as long as its not on the road (show use)

Sooooooooo, maybe it would have been better to ring the registry in the first place and while you were on the phone also ask if the rest of the car would be looked at too. Then you may not have had to go through all this marigmarole, or maybe you would have. Only they know.

this is true i might not have had to when i asked over the phone, but i have no doubt when i pulled up with the car as it normally is and climbed out as a young male (perfect hoon stereo type) they would be licking their fingers

Thats what I expected.

But they might be sticklers, like my earlier reference to a NOS kit without the bottle, they may want to see something in place so that you could not use them illegally on the road without performing some task that could not be performed from the drivers seat. But on the other side of the coin, they might just be happy with a switch that is separate to the factory lighting system.

Just digressing for a moment from the lights issue and onto what was mentioned about emissions...I can tell you they have literally no time for emissions breaches.
That sounds a bit drastic, sending people to bloody Sydney from Canberra...

There was a suggestion a few years back to bring in a system used in the USA...California to be precise (of course)...where a pair of laser beams shone across the road and measured the air densities and make up in front the car and behind the car, and worked out if your vehicle was producing too many emissions. I believe it was NSW that tested them for a short while.

Another little gem that people might want to keep in mind is one that not many people know about.
Open your fuel filler cap (or on a motorbike, look on top of the tank near the filler), see that little sticker saying "Unleaded Fuel Only"? Remove that...either deliberately or after, say, repainting...and you face a fine somewhere in the reason of $2000 from the environmental mob. The Transport Department will be the ones to book you for this by the way. Haven't actually heard of it happening to any car drivers, but it has happened to bike riders who've repainted the bike and not replaced the sticker. One suggestion from a legal eagle was to engrave the words on the alloy fuel filler cap of the bike...the law only says it has to be there somewhere...not that it actually has to be a little sticker as such.

Usually they're pretty lax enforcing anti-pollution regs...most modern cars are too hard to fiddle with too much in that regard apart from people knocking out cats. There's not that many old cars around now anyway, and cops don't even ask you to pop the bonnet anymore...certainly not like they used to at least.

thanks for the heads up, ill check that the sticker is there as the car was smashed on that side of the car a couple of years ago. im hoping they arent going to send me to sydney, as far as i can see its a bit of a joke to send someone that far

It's not funny, but it's not a joke.

I haven't had it happen to me, but I know of enough people getting a charger kits etc. engineered (or to clear a suspect emissions defect), the testing must be done in Sydney.

well... looks like this isnt going to end here. got a list as long as my arm. main ones are to loud (105db's @3200rpm) to low (98mm's ground clearance) and suspension travel to short (didnt realise that you had to maintain 2/3's of the stock suspension travel. and apart from that just a few minor things. got done for exhaust leak ( one bolt missing from dump pipe ), one of the front indicator lights the yellow has worn off a bit and the bump stops have worn from lowered suspension, and a grommet missing from the spare tyre well.

so its time to search ebay for the minor things like bump stops, grommets maybe a stock exhaust (also going to try local exhaust shops) and stock front struts.

moral of the story atm if you take the standard thing off the car, dont sell it throw it in the roof for a rainy day
