as much as i dislike holden i think this is great news especially the manufacturing side of it as alot more jobs are now secure for hard working aussies. and for that i applaud holden for giving it a go.

They have a hell of a lot of excess capacity that could be filled if they needed it to be.

It wouldn't need to be 20k a month, the FG would be a niche product in the US just like Commodore will be.

Even if they sold 10k units a month they would have the capacity to do it, just takes 2 shifts, planning, more staff and time.

To give you an idea of capacity, during 2004 Broady was making 520 cars a day 6 days a week, its now doing 209 4 days a week. Thats a hell of a lot of excess capacity, and Broady could have built more cars in 2004 but was constrained by I6 supply that was near maxed out. Now that diesel and EB4 are also available Broady could build more if need be and not be constrained by I6 supply. But I guess its all irrelevant now.

Maybe this is a foot in the door thing , in the long term the tooling to be sent to US and the line replaced in Adelaide

Nah, US is moving to Alpha for their small and mid sized RWD needs, GM's sedans are already to FWD AWDs

The lightening of Zeta Commodore will give Holden a life extension for the next five years particularly with
15,000 to 20,000 odd V8 versions a year disappearing over the water to the USA..

I'm plenty aware of what their capacity could be, but my main point was where theyre at now, its not simply a case of taking orders and building the cars. Suggesting they sell 20K units in America was a response to somebody else's remark suggesting Ford US should take FG and derivatives instead of investing in the D3/4 cars.
