That’s the strong belief, the 2.3 EB hybrid that was supposed to be revealed for NG Mustang was scratched,
so any possible extension to Bronco/Ranger/ Everest was in doubt/not gonna happened.
The other Rumour was a grandfathering of batteries, motor and drives from current F150
but that looks extremely doubtful…….in our region, Ford will ride diesel into the ground.
and who can blame them, there’s lots of sales to be made.

It didn't make sense for Mustang. Doesn't mean they won't use it elsewhere.

For those still worried about range in a commercial vehicle and long distance runs/towing a hybrid would be the perfect stepping stone into a pure EV or whatever powertrain gets developed and marketed down the track.

I'm also worried whatever the company accountants based their "numbers" on may be wrong as proven with previous releases..eg. Bronco, Maverick, Lightning totally underestimated in the US, and here model mix favouring top end specs model for Ranger & Everest....what the company thinks people want and what people actually roll up to order has a bit of a disconnect that is very frustrating...and let's not go near why Ford thinks everyone is happy with a black leather interior....

At the very core of the problem is how deeply conservative Ford are. While predicting sales and sale mixes is very hard, Ford have had a decade of evidence pointing towards buyers wanting high spec models, Ranger/Everest/Mustang in particular. So they really don't have an excuse for not being able to gear up properly for that demand. Again, Ford are just too conservative for their own good sometimes.

A hybrid Ranger would in all likelihood, displace diesel sales, Ford is not going to do that
on the heels of a just released V6 diesel thats a runaway sales success. A hybrid is a “option”
If and only if diesel tanks or is legislated out of existence…..and that’s highly unlikely.

Of course, it is possible that Ford has just supplied Ranger and Everest in engines that
the market has been asking for since the mid twenty teens…….but what would I know…

This is where I disagree...or more accurately entertain a different strategy...play in every segment and don't leave the door open to your opposition especially when it's your momentum which has been building for a while now.......what if Toyota comes out with a Hybrid Hilux and a V6 diesel Hilux next model...Ford might lose sales of Ranger Diesel to Ranger Hybrid, but it would stop them losing sales to Mr T.

All these green target businesses and councils will lap up hybrid units.
Even the ‘high quality modern ‘ ldv t 60 electric is sold out for months.

Absolute clown show - well you can't polish a turd, but you can certainly roll it in glitter for the councils/fleets and thats what they've done.

Thats the advantage of being first to market, you can jump onboard with the niche there early.

I think hybrid Ranger could be on the cards - Saint Jacinda of the Woke across the ditch has basically taxed Thailand Specials up the ***, I know they're a tiny market but its still lost sales, they've got to be looking at political climate in both Australia and NZ.

It can happen here too if they want to depending on how ambitious our federal crossbench gets and wants to wedge the federal government on something.

Even if they're getting something ready in the background for when the trigger gets pulled they can dust off a solution.

Franco Ranger was still the best seller in Aotearoa in November. 1700 plus sales. Second best Hilux.
Tesla y was the number one passenger vehicle seller.

Not sure why so much hate on the Prado.
Sure it's old, but nothing ever goes wrong with them, they are awesome offroad, comfortable, 150l tank, massive aftermarket, great resale, and old school Japanese build quality.
Basically if you order one, Toyota can't give you a date or even guarantee you a current model. I'm sure if they could sell 3000 a month they would.
New one is due late next year.

Oh its chassis is unique, not shared with any other Toyota. (apart from the discontinued FJ Cruiser)

Hybrid Hilux/Tacoma is supposed to be a thing on next Gen in 2024, Tacoma is reportedly getting 2.4 turbo hybrid,
so a 2.3 EB hybrid would be an appropriate response….not sure about a PHEV mayb 40-50 km of city electric range
would be a perfect lead into a BEV Ranger.

This is where things complicated, V6 diesel is dedicated to T6 in our region, it’s ours for as long as buyers want it.
The moment that ceases to be true, Ford has electrified alternatives planned that will be cool in another way.

You are way off on this. Especially for Europe where diesel is on the nose.

Cause it drives like crap. It's like a boat on a rolling ocean with steering that vaguely tells you whats happening and suspension that rolls around terribly.

It is good off road for sure though.

Drive a Prado and then an Everest V6 and it feels like the Everest is 2 generations ahead.

My comment re diesel specifically for our region, Ford will die on that hill rather than give up early on V6 diesel.

Something else is planned for “Ranger in Europe” and might borrow from eTransit to get a head start on things the yanks are planning with eRanger by end of decade which is too far for ROW.

With Ford and VW in bed atm,

Could the agreement between the two companies be that VW enter the market 1st with their electric ute? Could it be that VW do all the DEV work and FORD jump in at the end with their face/interior etc (Just like VW have done with their Ranger)

I doubt it as it's Ford factory's that have to build it and the Aussie program lead at release said Ranger was planned for "future powertrains" from day one so I'd say the work is already well underway. It's just Ford Australia hates to talk about anything future based, which isn't always the case with Ford US..I think they showed off some models nearly a year before sale date, like Lincoln Aviator for example.

Their own cultural ineptitude and inability to cease the moment and lead.

Ford in our region is notorious for not talking about future plans
because they know that there’s serious problems with over promising
on products they know are hard to deliver but some vision would be nice…..

Absolutely not. VW have next to no input on Ranger. They barely have any input on the Amarok.

Which is baffling why they are talking about this. I reckon Ford would be fuming.

VW did purchase International Scout name with intention of doing a US based EV, maybe that’s where their EV Amorok is coming from…….

Either that or they just revealed Ford’s plans….

VW recently said the Scout brand wouldn’t come to australia.

True but there’s a chance that Scout could build an EV Amorok for VW North America,
remembering that VW thought T6 based Amorok would be permitted there (Ford stopped)

Just like the new Amarok, VW will have next to no involvement.
