Got a private seller who will take $4000 less than the dealership I contacted, but I reckon I can still go further downward

Probably not even purchased/driven that FGX XR8 either

Would an I30 suffice in place of a sprint? Bought instead of paying overs for an old bomb.

Again about power…. Literally you seem to have no other factors to throw at us. What about handling improvements? Brakes? List goes on…

The sprint if it handles better is all in the tyres.. that’s an easy change.

Would you honestly pay $15k on top for a fgx xr8 sprint over the base XR8? For a limited edition badge?

The salesman must see you coming, he winds up and ready to hit a home run
No, my point is in every post about cars on here all you talk about is power as if nothing else matters. But anyway,

Have you ever thought that maybe people want to buy, what they want to buy? Maybe Sprint owners bought them because they like them?

Not as likely given recent changes to how franchise laws are managed after GM's handling of the Holden exit.

Based on that, a manufacturer would now probably have to wait until each individual dealer agreement expired before they could actually get a dealer out - unless they offered to buy them out etc which is also unlikely.

They could still go down the path of a different business model - ie, fixed price with stock they hold but they still need to honour franchisees which would probably be a nightmare.

Because the majority of dealers are still scumbags.
I watched a F350 sell for $35k at the end of April in Adelaide, now the exact same vehicle is for sale in sydney at a dealer for $60k.....

So why is the dealer a scumbag?
They are in business.
The point of being in business is to make money.
F350 is on the lot for $60k. Dealer knows realistically it will sell for around $55k.
They paid $35k. By the time it was transported back , detailed , NSW rego done etc they have another $6k in it sitting on the lot.
So it now owes them $41k. $14k profit at the moment.
BUT when that profit comes in tax needs to come out of it. There's $5k gone.
Now down to $9k.
Insurance , paying for staff , cost of the dealership etc etc. If it sits for a month it owes another $1k to the dealer.
So $8k profit and we haven't discussed the warranty yet............
Not seeing how marking a vehicle up to sell it makes a dealer a scumbag.

I have not met a car dealer yet new or used who was on the right side of honest, and most folk I know start a business to supply a service to the public, not to make money, but one that will show a profit at the end of the financial year!

I have had employers who paid the workers first and others who paid themselves first, now that is a scumbag!
Anyone who depends on a commission to make a living is in my opinion going to try screw whatever they can out of that person buying that product, they have no morals, ethically deficient and free from guilt!

But paying $35k in SA and moving it 2000 klm and marking it up to $60k is past scumbag to being a legal thief.

Cheers Billy.

Pretty typical attitude towards people who give running their own business a go.People who work for someone else have no qualms about taking a $100k+ salary when in reality they are worth maybe $50k.Maybe Intercepter gives most of his pay back so he isn’t seen to be making a profit off the boss

I have feelings too, y'know!

To be fair though, to give you a real world idea of what you're suggesting. A car salesman, for instance, usually gets a basic commission of around $100-$200 and then around 10% on top if there is a real profit in the car (which, particularly for NEW vehicles, is not as consistent as you may think.) So the "screw whatever they can" results in possibly an extra $50 here and there. Not hundreds, not thousands.

Also; most salespeople are rewarded bonuses for volume - say at 15 vehicles per month or 20 or whatever it may be dependant on the dealership they work for and how many vehicles they sell etc. So then, it becomes about getting as many cars sold, not so much about the profit.

For every person who "screws people", there's probably another who gives away profit because they're weak salespeople and is more interested in getting to their sales volume target.

And yet, if you were in a similar situation, say it any other product where you had an opportunity to buy something and then profit it from it, you would sleep perfectly, wouldn't you?

Hypothetically, you noticed a piece of furniture on facebook market place. You think to yourself, "I could buy that, apply some paint and what not and then turn it over for a profit". You apply the paint and then you apply a 200% markup and sell it. But you're not a scumbag, are you?

Lastly; the buying public are always so hellbent on declaring "I never pay asking price, I always get a discount!" but never think to consider that stance when judging others about their asking price..

Dazz, just using this for the points you brought up.....

Traditionally Factories/and any commodity for that matter are Not Sales orientated nor geared up for it thats why.
They have never wished to be at the coal face, hard enough running a plant/sourcing etc let alone having a Retail division.
Breaks your chops - period, just look at all these whinging case's and then the great buying pro tips by some ....some mothers do ave them.

Dealers not interested ? well thats either a DP's lack of fingers on the pulse of his business OR he has too many other business's that take up more of his time and whoever he has put in the run the place is not good enough But again thats his employers doing and responsibilty.

I don't know about other countries but here all my life there is alot of bitterness or attitude to the companies or individuals making a buck.
Putting aside the obvious "shonks" in any game who is the curse of tarring all with the same brush a company/small business has to be profitable.
Can employ more etcetc yet that owner is looked upon like a rip off P
FFS I can only admire people who have done well, wish at times I did similar.

We begrudge successful people, yet though who are the larrikan type get away with it and be admired.
We're a weird lot.

Sorry slowsnake what a load of bollocks opening a business to provide a service only, nah mate its to do both and more depending growth, provide a service, employ and make some money hopefully after all your running costs, provide a even better service employ more make more depending how much you put back into your business at the same time, do better you've worked your butt off and created a good working environment to get there, turn it up.

Lastly; the buying public are always so hellbent on declaring "I never pay asking price, I always get a discount!" but never think to consider that stance when judging others about their asking price..
I bet those that “always get a discount”don’t stand and try to bargain with the checkout person at the supermarket or bottleshop.seems it is alright to bargain a $10-40k car down every 4-5 years, but not a $10-15k grocery bill every year

You Forgot to mention numbnuts like Fiji Expecting you to pay overs for his ****box Aurion..
