As for the tune, It is recommended to get the most out of the modifications that you have made. You have changed the air/fuel conditions of the car with the GT40Ps, cam and manifold. Without a tune, your ecu will provide the same fuel to the engine as it would have in the old configuration (EB), potentially causing it to run lean. Tune recommended. Good luck Stu

Just thought id throw this out there seeing as though this thread popped back up the other day.
I pulled the 200kw engine down out of my AUII XR8 ute tonight to carry out a freshen up. I got the dial indicator and magnetic stand out and measured the Yella Terra rockers that were fitted to it, and can confirm that they were also 1.7:1 ratio.

It will run lean if you use a bigger t/b and maf. It is on the limit for the standard eb tune though because ive had mine on the dyno and its around 13/1 afr although ive never had it ping on me using 98 octane. The guy who dynoed my car told me it will be fine for everyday driving and the odd blast down the drags but refrain from doing burnouts. Almost 30000km down the track ive had no issues and ive been to the drage 3 or 4 times. |

Agreed Jeff, I've been through all my Crane data, and I cannot find any evidence past or present of Crane making a 1.6:1 ratio pedestal rocker... Only 1.7:1 ratio.

Hi there people, been a while since I was on here...
Have a question, I have a 11/01 build AUII XR8 ute,, I have had valve train noise for ages... Long story short, i pulled the rocker covers off today and found a broken valve spring... Howver the suprising part is that It has Yella Terra Roller rockers and double valve springs. Does this mean it is a 220kwe long motor? OR are all 200kw valve springs double and i just lucked out with some 220kw rockers? Heads are cast iron. Basically with the engine open how can I tell which long motor it is? Throttle body has no wings and there is no oil cooler... Need to know because i want to order a spring thru Ford..Thanks fellas |

Ok Gents. This is not a newbie, GM or grammar bash thread. Points have been made, let's leave it at that. Any further posts having a shot at the iceman post will be deleted.

Were xr v8 engine numbers different to none xr?
Just trying to work out if my lane has had a xr motor or something done to it. Doesn't have any of the external clues, like the ticky tb or anything like that, but it just seems to go really well for what should be quite a 'sedate' big old car. |

Engine number should match VIN number. If they don't, motor has been swapped out at some stage. |

Yes, it's a 175kw motor. May have a little bit more power with the mods, but all Fairmont Ghia's had the 175 motor

My au 11 xr8 pursuit ute also the 1.72 yella terra rockers, doesnt have the factory c & c ported heads like the 220, the part number on the cam indicates its 200kw spec cam shaft and it doesnt have the tickford throttle body. odd....

Not as odd as you might think, I've had 2 XR utes like that now, both were series III and NOT 220's!

I was wondering if anyone has an an AUII Windsor V8 engine bay diagram of what's what? So I can locate all the components and know what they are before I remove an engine and put it into another engine bay. Thank you...

Hoping someone can shed some light on this. The workshop manual says to remove the kickdown cable but I've seen other info which says it has an electronic kickdown.
If it has a cable for kickdown, I can only find what appears to be throttle and cruise cables. Any help appreciated, thank you.

Evening all,
I have a question regarding making a hybrid AU2/AU3 XR8 motor. Ive posted this on fordmods but thought I would also sing out here. I currently have a series 2 XR8, with the 200kw donk. I have an opportunity to get a hand on a 220kw motor from a wrecking XR or at least as many components as I choose. I initially have my eye on the Tickford branded throttle body, do I need to take the MAF and airbox piping as well to make life easier?. im also thinking of taking the heads from the series 3 XR motor, how would these components hook up to my AU2 XR cam, rods and block? Conscioys of rockers, etc. Extractors? Both motors are running factory items. Finally engine management, if this Franken combo works, would standard AU2 XR engine management handle this? My current motor is fine, the possible AU3 has a busted harmonic balancer and bottom end is unknown. The yop end components look good, im just curious what is worth getting my hands on to enhance my series 2. I wouldn't fit the heads until I have the funds to fit/purchasestroker kit as well as replace rear seal (starting to leak). However the throttle body and MAF might get bolted straight in if an easy addition. cheers guys. DJ

To further clarify the query, I am hoping to use the following exisitng AU2 engine components (cause I know they are in good condition):
- Short motor (block, cam) - Manifold - MAF - All other fuel components (spark plugs, injectors, cables, etc) And combine with the following donor Series 3 items: - Cylinder heads (including valves and rocker arms and springs) - Throttle body. The question I am most wondering is which rods and lifters should I retain/reuse for this combination.

Great thread.
Question... Series 1 AU 5.0 Fairlane Ghia bog stock. I've got the opportunity to get Crane Cams roller rockers and pushrods and the owner says they have a ratio of 1.72. Is it just a matter of bolting these onto my stock motor? What else should I be doing? Thx. |

Yes, should be a straight bolt on.
As you will be stressing the valve springs a little more, I would changed them out for the crow version as well, with new locks and retainers. I did this exact same upgrade to my bog stock 5L LTD - a nice little bump in power. With air intake and extractors this combination produce 154rwkw with would take it over 200fwkw. Good luck. Stu
