I’m surprised the penalties for speeding drivers in school zones are not informed by whether or not they have school age children. It should be double, at least. Ditto the fines for driver on phone if the car has factory hands free.

I have said for years that the ph penalties should be much more severe for texting compared to talking. To me holding the ph and talking is no more distracting than talking to passengers or arguing with the radio!BUT texting involves taking hands off the wheel and looking at the ph whilst typing out messages.See it everyday at traffic lights, drivers looking up,then down and upagain, goes on and on til the lights change, then same again at the next red light.Fine them $1000 first offence $2000 second time then 6 months loss of licence for the next time

Why is it that in the metric world of today, a tyre spec is a still mix of metric and imperial measurements stamped on every tyre?

Try being in the aviation world:

Height (either above ground or above sea level) is measured in feet. Vertical separation is in feet. Runway lengths are in metres as is the minimum horizontal separation limits. Speed is in knots (nautical miles per hour), as is radio reporting distances.

There's probably a few more I've forgotten, but it's a real mismatch of both imperial and metric and also the units of measure.

They started introducing metric into schools when I was a kid.

First thing I was told when I left school to start my apprenticeship was forget metric, all Heritage buildings are measured and built using cubits, yards, feet and inches.
These days I don't go anywhere without my folding rule showing feet and inches
Also comes in handy when dabbling in wooden boats and as you say, navigation.

Funny you were told that. When I started work I was told to forget imperial and use metric only. And try your best not to use both as it will only make the job harder

Why is it that Bumbles choc honeycomb are $5 for a 400g bag whilst the equivalent Violet Crumble is $5 for a 150g bag? And yet they are both made by the same company.

Only the taste buds (or a factory insider) can tell. I could imagine the honey comb is the same, but perhaps violet crumble uses a good quality chocolate coating, while the cheap one uses a cheap coco powder concoction.
Chocolate varies widely in quality, good quality always contains real coco butter.

Why is it that the word starting with c that describes a part of the female anatomy appears to be so offensive to a lot of women, and yet the equivalent word, starting with d, for a part of the male anatomy is widely used and doesn't appear to be anywhere near as offensive?

My old man told me there was no such word as can't. As a little kid, I was pretty offended.

Why is it that 'tradies' cut their nipples off (sealant cartridge nipples) and leave them wherever they fall?

Why is it that the lawn-mowing blokes and girls drop their trimmer cord cast-offs in the gutter? Several days ago I picked up two 2-metre-plus pieces, obviously dropped by the one person (same colour, same spot in the gutter).

And why is it that dog owners (some of them) pick up the dog **** in a plastic bag and then throw the bag and contents away?

One of my gardens has a hedge bordering an alley way, in my case they fling them into the hedge. Good suburb too, pigs.

That last one's a difficult one as it is socially frowned upon, as a dog owner, if you don't clean up after your dog in public spaces.

I do try and minimise the amount I use by using a bag from a walk to collect deposits at home wherever possible, and I also purchase compostable bags to use, too.

ABC radio from 10:05 am to 10:30 am Tuesdays (Melbourne and possibly Vic. regional areas) there is free legal advice from David Whiting.

A few years ago this bloke rings up. Dog owner. Had been dropping the **** over someone's front fence. Home owner set up a camera, got photos of him and stuck them to power posts and other fixtures in the local area. Dog owner wanted to know if it was legal for home owner to do this. I am pretty sure the lawyer said it was.

But the idiot caller thought his actions in dropping the **** over someone's fence was funny, a joke.
