Probably because there are no restrictions on leaving Tassie. The borders are only closed to the disease carriers from the big island. When Tasmanians return they have to go into quarantine for 2 weeks

i think if you are caught out and about showing symptoms of COVID, then you should be forced to be tested, and if the results come back positive, then a massive fine for not being in some sort of isolation.

this might help those who are struggling with the simple concept that other states seem to be having no issue with.

I'm interested in the legalities around trying to force testing on people - VIC Government is currently seeking legal advice over this as there's circa 30% of quarantines refusing testing.

Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.

You can either volunteer for a swab test, or they hand you to the vets for temperature checking?

My eldest traveled all through southern Europe in their summer in 2019, and got nailed by a flu while there. Crazy to read this.

Spanish Flu 2? Pity, I liked the Batlady memes

Here's an interesting scenario, we've got two sides of the fence in this discussion.

If you were the grand poobah of the government and country - how would you handle COVID-19 outbreak in Australia?

Free cheeseburgers for everyone!!!

Ask Trump if we can borrow all their aircraft carriers to tow Tasmania to Antarctica, then sink it.

I would lock you b@stards up for 2-4 weeks, Xi style. Troops at every road in and out of every state. Would have eliminated the virus. Should be easy to do with a population of only 27m. Then open everything and get back to normal. Pretty simple formula really. Maybe I can replace Dr Murphy.

Franco if they can write your car off the road for a offensive window sticker to them, i'm sure a little forced nasal probing is not out of the question.

Sounds pretty stupid to me. Uh, they are passing through Melbourne Aust biggest hotspot with the potential to pass this on throughout Vic, NSW and the ACT.

That's correct it is stupid, but it's the problem of the NSW, VIC & ACT Govco because they haven't closed their borders to entry (between states/territories), anyone can wander in because no state or Territory has prevented anyone from actually leaving them, the difference is QLD, WA, SA, Tas and the NT have closed borders to all but essential arrivals….

I’m heading back to Darwin on the 6th July and leaving QLD is no problem at all, I don’t need any paperwork, don’t need to do a thing….getting in to the NT is another thing entirely though including self-isolating for 14 days before leaving and filling out a whole bunch of forms, checklist’s and declarations. When i arrive i will spend the night in a hotel and will have to remain there, the next morning I with the rest of the joining crew will be transported to the ship where we will have to remain for the duration of our swing, no nipping up the road when back in for port calls.....

Hopefully when crew change next comes around the border restrictions between NT & QLD have been relaxed

Flinders Street Station staff are testing positive to COVID-19

This is Melbourne's major metro rail terminal

Due to this stupid move, I reckon QLD will not reopen its border with NSW for a while, maybe even spring.
Imagine all the southern state grey nomads amassing on the southern side of the Tweed, waiting to flood QLD if it opens while it still winter.

Just this weekend we have had an influx of Melbourne refugees hanging around the North East and not abiding by the rules.
They were advised not to leave Melbourne to go on holidays but here they are the stupid f***ers.

DJR stay safe.

I went to visit my sister in Castlemaine a few weeks ago and it was absolutely packed with people coming up on day trips hanging about town, so much so you couldn't get car parking and the bloody fancy cafe run outta Souvlaki!

I've never seen Castlemaine so busy.

5 people maximum in the cafe which was enforced, but everyone was hanging about shoulder to shoulder outside in a huge group.

Thanks Franco, definitely won't be going anywhere near those quarries there now for a while.

Busy down here on the coast. To be fair, when people go for a walk on the promenade, they are pretty well distanced. People walking on the beach ditto.
Within the cafes/businesses, it's closer within a more confined space. Insane to think there's a solid increase of cases in a pandemic and people are spilling out from the infected areas.

Now Franco if I were the grand poohbar: shut off all international flights. Quarantine, remote for returning citizens. 40 days not 14 (the word quarantine comes from the black death arriving in the Italian ports, it meant 40 days then, should do so now too, some cases emerge after 14 days). Don't mix quarantining passengers. No sex between security and passengers. In fact, the military would manage it with far better discipline. Adequate PPE. Virus in community? Lockdown the areas for 6 weeks. That would stop it, China style. Economy stuffed? Well, it's going to be more stuffed if you get as infected as the US has done. The choice is the lesser of two evils. Next step: watch and see how infection declines. Then, being the poohbar, retire to concubines.
