Default Redback exhaust fitted to the wagon

Hi All,

Just thought I'd post some feedback on the Redback exhaust I had fitted last week.

It's 2.5" mandrel bent, and I got the optional muffler at the rear. Being a wagon, I was worried it would be a bit droney without the 2nd muffler/resonator.

It cost $360 intsalled.

Results are pretty good, better than expected as I was not expecting any noticeable increase. It's generally a bit more responsive and feels less restricted. It does have a deeper note and is a tad louder, but from inside you wouldn't really pick it as having a louder exhaust (which is what I wanted). There is a noticeable (albeit small) difference on overall accelaration.

Overall pretty happy with the results, and it's great value for money, as a replacement standard exhaust was gonna cost the same or more.

Only thing I have to do is get rid of the super lame tip that's on it! Guy asked what type of tip I wanted, and I asked for a chrome straight cut tip, he's put on what looks like a 3.5 or 4" tip which looks absolutely STUPID on the back of the wagon!

Will be getting the tip removed hopefully soon, as it's embarassing! Will replace with just a normal plain 2.5".

Thanks for that mate. I'll be getting my exhaust done within the next few weeks, so it's interesting to read about results and opinions. I think I'll most likely be getting the same exhaust job done as you (redback/mandrel bent/2.5".)

By any chance, did you get a quote about how much extra the 2nd muffler/resonator would've cost?

No worries! The $360 included the 2nd muffler and fitting. I think without the 2nd muffler it was going to be about $310 or so. As my kids are in the car all the time though, I went for the 2nd muffler to keep things nice and quiet.

I have the same system, but got it off ebay and fitted it myself. I also run the rear muffler for "family" reasons, but it's still got a slight burble, which the kids like (but Daddy's car is louder!!!).

I had a look on ebay as well, but the only ones I could find were $350 for the same exhaust plus delivery! For less money I could have it supplied and fitted at the local exhaust shop.

You're lucky. Up here (Canberra), the supply price was about the same, plus $100 for fitting!

mandrel bends huh?

Are mandrel bends a issue when it comes to actual exhausts? Or is it just a issue with how extractors are made?

Press bends are a restriction. mandrel bends keep the full diameter of the pipe for the full length of the pipe, including turns.

Nah, not like that one. It's a big round chrome one - it almost looks like a cannon muffler - that's how bad it is! It really sets off the roof racks and towbar...!

Thats good to see as this is exatcly what i will be after when i go for a new exhaust system. I am just wondering though, is the rear muffler much more of a restriction at all, or is just a noise supressor?

It took me long enough, but finally, here are some pics of my totally lame milo tin exhaust tip - I measured it up and it's nearly 4 inches!

It is chromed! I have intentionally not washed it to take the attention away from it a bit!

Happy New Year to you too!

Unfortunate about the tip. I guess the guy was having trouble trying to get rid of them.
