The simple truth is that a dyno cannot measure the true power curve increase of a high stall converter.No dyno operator has stalled my car to 3400rpm and then measure its power curve.

Ahhh... so that explains the wheelspin to half track.....

have they reved the car past 3400rpm on the dyno?
All the stallie does is stop you from having a realist plot *below* the stall rpm.

Personally, in the drag game, I dont think anyone takes a car serious till its at least in the 12's. Anything other than that is a street car out having fun. Of course, thats my own opinion and doesnt really count for anyone but me.

Each to their own in the end. There are different types of cars anyhow. Theres the really fast ones (the 12's and less), then there are the turbos, V8's, I6's, 4pots and varients of each. To say it is or isnt fast is a matter of "relative to what?". I'm sure Focus owners think 14's are the goods, I6 Falcon owners are looking at 13's, Boss owners are lookng at low 12's, turbos into the 11's etc. Its all relative. You may not think 14's are all that quick but thats only your opinion. Others may think it is. I'm sure some of the 11 second car owners look at 13's and wonder "why bother?" but thats because they are working on cars on a different level and have their own definition of "fast".

So the question comes back to each person individually defining to themselves what "fast" is and then working to that. Remember, most people here only race their daily driver for fun and the social aspect, very few of us take it so serious as to go "all out" in a dedicated race car. Therefore the setup and times for each car is as varied as the cars themselves.
Telling them to "give up" just because their definition of fast is different to yours is basically just turning those who dont live up to YOUR definition of the sport and flushing the fun down the toilet.

FAST is a relative concept.

14.77 would be the PB of any 90's HSV you can name for instance.
Most XY GTHO's wouldn't do any better.
Torana A9X's and VL Turbo's Mid 15's.
AU XR8's and T series mid 15's mostly too until T3 and BA series.

A fast drag car to me is something running 7 -9 second bracket down the 1/4. A fast street car is one which can accelerate nicely past most sports production cars. Especially the ones arrogant show offs drive.

Getting to faster depends on how deep your pockets are and how good the people you deal with are. I think we can get to 12's for an in6 na au in time

yep 14.9 sounds about right
did a 14.81 with a similar set up.

about to bang in a 3.45 LSD , histall , shift kit and decent tyres.(if all goes well)
i'll let u know if its worth it in 3 weeks.

P.S f@ck money , what else u gonna do with it ,expect drink it all away or have your missus spend it.

I agree with you, i was prepared to pay $5500 for 170rwkw & 14.5 or there abouts in an NA I6. Unfortunately it didn end up that way. Also dude 14.5 is very quick in an NA standard auto car, might cost me $5500 to make it run 14s but it would cost you $5500 a year in petrol :P

be careful with your clutch selection when you do your manual conversion. its just not a matter of chucking a standard clutch in there because it will slip with the kind of power your putting out and you'll end up with slower times then you had with the auto. i'd recomend tricking up your auto with a decent stally and shift kit.

I've got an ITS Performance motor (stage 4)
its pretty similar to a DEV 5 , except with a bit of bottom end work.
Got a JMM tuner aswell.
stock auto.single spinner.no shift kit.

...it'll all pay off when i get that 14 flat (well hopefully)

Sure will,can be up to 0.5sec quicker, my own experiences with broken gearboxes and clutch drama's should be a warning to others,even after all the hassles and rebuilds/different clutches,Im still not where I should be..

post is gettin old but hey i just found it. My wife has a ef F Ghia 2 and if you can get those heavy things down the track in high 14s you have nothin to wory about. Your gear is doing very well. Imagine how quick it would be if it weighd heaps less,like an ea or eb or somethin. An like Lokz said hes doin the same as you with similair gear. At least u can do it in comfort. :

As power figures go up people start putting autos back in anyway...

But if I pulled a 14.77 and consistent 14.8's a month later with a full tank of fuel then it must be he stallie. 131 rwkws wont be doing it in comparison to other cars on the same dyno. Maybe it is because a dyno must be loaded progressively so cannot record this factor.Not sure...

Thanks, iv got a manual box ready to put in soon, hopefully i can run a better time with that. Id keep the auto if the car was for pure drag racing & i was gonna turbo it or something.
