Hey guys,
Just a quick question. I'm looking at getting new rims for my 07 CL focus (the hubcaps just don't do it for me!), and I just wanted to make sure that 17x7's will fit the car with no worries, with tires that'll probably be 225/45R17. That's not gonna have an effect on the speedo or anything is it? Cheers |

as long as the circumference of the tyres is the same as the stock wheels, the speedo will be ok.

Stock tyre sizes off the plackard are as follows:
195/65R15 205/55R16 205/50R17 I'm not sure why you'd put 225's on a 7" rim, it might look 'cool', but you'll find the tread surface will distort during cornering causing poor performance and premature wear. You should always try and fit a tread width that is the same as the rim width to prevent distortion. You'll have better wear, better cornering performance and your tyres will be cheaper. I can't think of an easy way to describe it, so I drew a picture, and the scanner's not working so I took a photo!

Here's a quick breakdown on tyre measurements...
205/55R16 205 = width of tyre in mm through the 'belly' (the bulge halfway between the bead and tread). NOT the width of the tread. Example, Jane's 195's have a tread width of only 170mm. It's the fattest part that 195mm. 55 = Profile, as a percentage of the width measurement (in this case 55% of 205mm). Measured from the bead, not the rim. R = radial construction, as opposed to that old conventional construction. 16 = rim size measured in inches. Load index = Load rating for each tyre. Ranges from 81 - 96, which equates to 462 - 710 kg/tyre respectively. Speed = Speed rating. Ranges from N - Y, which equates to 140 - 300kph. Common speed rating for performance tyres is Z. A point on the measurements... each manufacturer seems to take a slightly different interpretation on the measurements. That is to say a 205/55R16 is not always a 205/55R16. But don't take my word for it, Tyrepower has a description of how to read it.
