Default AU2 XR8 Pollen filter

Hi

I have bought an au2 xr8 ute a couple of weeks ago, I in the middle of doing a few things to it. It smells awful inside the cab, my question is does it have a cabin air filter and if so where is it and how do I change it. I have looked at the workshop manual and cant find anything so I am assuming it does not have one

Thanks in advance

No pollen filters in AUs.

It may have a blocked A/C drain tube, check that otherwise it could be mould & bacteria built up in the evaporator core.

i do think some one posted some time ago, (please correct me if im wrong) you can get rid of the mouldy smell by setting the air con to fresh air , put the fan on full bore and spray glen 20 down the windscreen grille (outside)on the passenger side intake for x amount of time, but if there is a problem with the water drain being blocked you would have to make sure this was fixed first .

There's specific products for this - I last used a Wurth product when the car was several years old. That was a few years ago and still the smell hasn't returned 👍🏼

Ok, to decontaminate the air vent system there's 2 options...

1: take it to a specialist A/C tech & pay $$$ to have a foam based product sprayed through the vents/pipes.

2: remove the glove box (to access the fan intake), turn the system to "recycle" & turn the fan on full, then open ONE vent at a time & spray Glen 20 directly into the fan...in short bursts. This allows the fan to force Glen 20 at full pelt through that vent. Then one by one, open/close each vent as you spray.

ENSURE THERE ARE NO NAKED FLAMES ANYWHERE NEAR BY WHILST YOU ARE DOING THIS

I also spray some into the outlet of each vent before I spray into the fan.
The above process works a treat & your car will smell like a field of fresh flowers!

I repeat this procedure about once every 6 months 'cause I have in the past contracted a chest infection after inhaling mold spores whilst the A/C was on.

I got a product from Repco that left a nice smell for weeks after using it. To use it was like bombing the house. Switch everything off except A/C, place can under glove box and push the button. Wait 5-10 min and air the car out. Cost around $40 from memory but a common problem in air conditioning units.

Never hurts as spores will be all over the ducting as well as the core. But do that with th efan off atherwise it will blow it straight out without doing its job.

THANKS HEAPS GUYS
I have sprayed through the fan behind the glove box and down the vents and plenum, went through 3 cans of glen 20 and all i can smell is glen 20.
Im going to put a jar of Nescafe in the car this arvo and leave it in there a couple of nights as well.
I still have new carpet coming but my mrs has shampooed the old ones and disinfected them, the seats as well, they are good now too, still ill put in the new carpet.
Really appreciate all the advice thank you so much

The reason I said spray some into the outlet of each vent is simply to ensure you get as much into the ducts as possible (maximizing penetration basically). Just a matter of turning fan off, spray into each vent & let it evaporate.
Spraying into the fan will flush the spray through, but obviously the spray won't be as effective by the time it exits the vents.

Door cavities can often cause odours too if the drains are blocked (stale water remains)
