Let me point out that Ford spends a huge amount of money sponsoring the Cricket... or lets say any other company sponsoring another event, and then Holden come along, and tout their product on their blimp for free to the whole audiance, effectivly getting free advertising.... that is why it has been banned....

Well it won't be law untill 2007. As the article states.

Boxing day test is in 2006.

Holden have been asked nicely not to do it. As the article states.

If they do it, no law is broken. As the article suggests.

I can still see Holden doing it.

Guys.. I don't see the problem with it.. don't you think holden paid enough getting the thing built and developed that they should be able to take it where ever they want to.. Brack's new law is just another way of opressing the few free rights we have left..

And no there is no need to get the blow torches out.. I already feeling the heat..

lets say that you dont have loyalties and your out for a car. you're watching the criket and ford is everywhere. if you see a big blimp in the air with holden on it would that make you change your decision?

holden is already everywhere, one big ugly blimp is not going to persuade someone to check them out. it will be the constant adds on tv and radios. i was walking past my sister today and she was singing that holden add song. "baby im ready to go" some crap like that. ford needs its own catchy little lingo to sink into the heads of future buyers of australia

the problem with the blimp is that they kept purposly flying so that the shadow swept across the playing field, no doubt trying to make people in the stadium look up and see HOLDEN. they did it like once every 5minutes FFS.

Not it this case I dont agree! Sponsorship is huge and keeps these sports going. To occupy air space with this visual pollution puts the amount of money spent by these sponsors into jepardy. Albeit marginally but it does.

If Ford, Kia, Toyota, Mitsu etc all buit one and sent them up, imagine the crap flying around? Why spend money sponsoring events when you can have a one off fee of building and then send it where ever you want? Arent bill boards every couple of meters on the freeway enough?

Redrum.....BREATH.....your turning BLUE!

I think the main problem is the shadow it will cast on the playing field. I'd hate to see a catch dropped or a shot missed just because the fielder/batter got distracted at just the wrong moment.

Glad to see its been banned, very inappropriate to be crashing another sponsor's event... i know it shouldnt be about "the money"... but it is. No primary sponsors = big cash withdrawal from a sport = bad for youngin's coming into said sport.

Having said this...

If it were a blue oval on that blimp, I would hate to think about the comments being flung brack's way right now!!!

Also please remember there are 6 other states/territories in Australia... currently not under the control of Mr Bracks....

Exactley, they can go fly it over the city, but causing intentional shadows is as good as a streaker accross the pitch to cricket players, disrupting and annoying, they want to play the game and concentrate.

All they would have to do is keep a chopper hovering flying around where they don't want the blimp, unless the blimp got there first.

Don't clouds cast shadows too?

I have no problem with it...just another example of how good the Holden Marketing team is. At the end of the day sponsors are there for the hundreds of thousands watching on TV, not the few thousand at the actual ground.

Actually the sponsors are there for the entire sport so before going off and writing it in bold check that your facts are correct. Without sponsors we wouldn't have sports that are at the level they are today.

They are there for the exposure on TV more so than for the crowd at the game.

FACT...If you were the sponsorship manager would you give up sponsoring an event because 100,000 people at the stadium were ambushed by Holden, despite the 2 million people sitting at home having no idea (about the Holden ambush). I'm thinking no.

MATHS...Nothing about going off, just simple Maths most companies would calculate in favour of not withdrawing their funds.

Fact: Ford don't pay for getting the cricket to T.V, how do you think everything else is paid for? Charity, no from sponsors.
