Im due for my 2nd on Saturday, made a Doctors appointment beforehand for another reason but will be asking his thoughts on the subject.

My mate (slightly my senior at mid-fifties) had slight arm soreness first and second Pfizer shots, and a slight “hangover” on the first only. His wife, ten years younger, had much greater muscular soreness, most pronounced on the second Pfizer injection. My 90 year old neighbour had negligible reaction to either dose of Pfizer. A strong and healthy care worker I know had extreme muscular soreness and temporary impairment of limb mobility (>1 wk) only on the second Pfizer shot.

Frankly, I’m happier being in the “cheap seats” vaccination-wise, no real concerns about clots. Would be interested to hear if there is more probing of the TIAs cited by Zilo. I believe they have a strong element of genetic predisposition.

Had 1st Pfizer jab Sept 7th, Both 65.. Both had Slight “corkie” to arm.. Mrs, a little lethargic for 48hrs.. Me, no side effect.
2nd jab yesterday.. Our arms similar to 1st. Mrs has been up with naggin headache most of the night (Panadol helped) Me, all ok (possibly Imperial beer wards off side effects?)
Next step is arranging digital vaccination certificate (for our Mexico border run) Which appears quite a task in dealing with Costa Rican bureaucracy!

My wife had both AZ shots with little to no side-affects. I felt pretty crook the day after my first AZ shot, not enough to be in bed or anything, just watching telly in the lounge crook. I also felt a bit off after the 2nd one, but only a few hours, the symptoms showed up almost 24 hours to the dot later

I get my 2nd AZ shot next Friday.
I'm hoping for no reaction this time as I have to go to the big smoke on Saturday.
I was terrible after my first shot - headaches, chills, sweats and massive stomach pains for 48 hours. After that it was fine.

That exactly mirrors our experience. I haven't heard of very many blood clot situations being reported either.

Very similar to my first dose experience. I went so far as to urge couples to offset their bookings, so potentially one could care for the other. Got friends in a really chilly part of Tasmania; I was quite blunt “If you both feel like this at the same time, you won’t be able to feed the fire and death from hypothermia is a real risk”.

Some interesting statistics coming out of the ABS overnight. Paints a different picture to the extrapolated data provided by suicide prevention centres during the pandemic, which showed an increase in the call rates. Of course, it should be noted that this is for the 2020 calendar year and that continued lockdowns, and lockdown fatigue, may show different results for 2021.

Mortality rate drops during lockdown
Australia's suicide rate fell but alcohol-induced deaths grew during the first year of the pandemic, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has revealed.

Despite unfounded claims from some anti-lockdown groups that stay-at-home orders cause more suicides, the ABS's latest data shows that in 2020 the suicide rate was actually lower at 12.1 per 100,000 people, compared to 12.9 in 2019.

The mortality rate from the top five causes of death (heart disease, Dementia, strokes, lung cancer and chronic lower respiratory diseases) also fell for the first time since 2008-2009.

Despite fewer deaths from a range of conditions, alcohol-induced deaths increased by 8.3 per cent last year, meaning there were 108 additional deaths compared to 2019.

Weekly alcohol sales increased between May 2020 and February 2021 and one in five people reported increased alcohol use during lockdown last year, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare says.

Well I am not sure what the go is with me, but awoke at 7am, went back to bed at 4am, every joint in my body is aching?
But I ache so bad I take Oxycontin, but the weather in Perth is so seasonally unpredictable this last year or so instead of warming spring weather it seems like the transition between autumn and winter?

Seems the wheat and canola growers are having a perfect year, production wise, but there seems to be a very unusual feeling in the air, not a feeling of dread or a feeling of an epiphany, but a overall type of "downheartedness"

Very odd!

Another interesting development. Wonder where Coupe is going to get his material from now

YouTube blocks all anti-vaccine content
YouTube will block all anti-vaccine content, moving beyond its ban on false information about COVID vaccines to include content that contains misinformation about other approved vaccines, it says.

Examples of content that won't be allowed on YouTube include claims that the flu vaccine causes infertility and that the MMR shot, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella, can cause autism, according to YouTube's policies.

WorkSafe can't prosecute Federally. I have spoken to someone at the Army base at Puckapunyal and they said WorkSafe has been in there, but just for the contractors. Federally it falls under Commlaw, there is a WHS Act that sits in Commlaw - https://www.legislation.gov.au/Brows.../0/0/principal. Comcare are the enforcers, so they would have to bring charges

For example, is it the elderly that primarily makes up flu death numbers, or is it a broader spread of the population like COVID appears to be (at least with the Delta variant)?
Deaths from influenza are clustered (mostly) in either the sub 16 age group or the over 70's so it differs from COVID where almost no deaths are in the <16 age group and a lot in the >60 one with a few spread in between.

Thought I'd share a story about how lax people have become with the lockdown.

My mum lives on her own and has struck up a buddy bubble with another single lady. They have got together and had a coffee together throughout the lockdowns.

My mum's friend's neighbours had organised a get together to celebrate the Grand Final, including inviting their children and families down from Melbourne. The children accepted and were fully planning on coming down to Sale. Not sure if it happened, as I haven't had a chance to catch up with my mum to discuss further.

My mum is not one that follows the rules closely, but she was pretty disappointed with this behaviour.

I see today that Dan Andrews is hinting that this jump in cases has come at a fairly indicative time after Victoria's long weekend, given what they know from interviews over recent days.

If the experience above is any indication as to what happened over the weekend, it's no surprise we're seeing a spike in cases.

Post 15298 was my previous comment and I would dare say coming true; people just cannot help themselves in disobeying rules.
To be honest people are getting sick of lockdowns and thumbing government directives.

NSW/VIC

NSW records 943 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.0041 (from 0.9815) while the actual line is now a bit above the predictive trend line and based on the 4th order polynomial, that trend line now has an upward curve again.

VIC records 1,438 cases in the current period (another record high) and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.1070 (from 1.0675) while the actual line is well above the predictive trend. That's also more than 500 cases above the previous high but the impact won't be seen in the trend for a couple of days.

We are learning to live with it. The current enforcement of restrictions is a good balance IMHO. People are being given just enough leeway to go about their outdoor activities, but with that comes increase in cases. Would be interested to see how many people have been fined for travelling too far for exercise / shopping and/or spending over their allocated time outdoor exercising. Close to zero I reckon.

We've been on a very slow and discreet controlled easing of socialisation outdoors.......without formally admitting it.

The GF superspeading event will likely lead to over 2000 daily cases in the next 7 days I reckon, as people will have had passed it from household to household. Hopefully the 70% first dose at the time will help control hospitilisations.

VIC records 1,438 cases in the current period (another record high) and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.1070 (from 1.0675) while the actual line is well above the predictive trend. That's also more than 500 cases above the previous high but the impact won't be seen in the trend for a couple of days.

Hey Russ, I notice that the x-axis for the Vic cases has changed. My comment the other day about comparison between NSW and Vic cases referenced actual numbers at day 78. Today's graph stops at actual data about day 73.

Have you re-baselined the start date for the outbreak?

I think you are right, that is in metro Melbourne, it would be rare to be fined for travelling outside your radius (unless you try crossing over to regional Vic).

However, in doing so, the risk rule breakers face, is if they have a car accident and the police turn up, or if you get stopped for speeding or running a red, etc.
Then you might get questioned and fined.

Insurance claims may also be an interesting test case.
